The magic is officially back. HBO has announced the lead cast for its highly anticipated Harry Potter television series, revealing that newcomers Dominic McLaughlin, Arabella Stanton, and Alastair Stout will portray the beloved trio of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
The casting marks a significant moment in the development of the HBO Original series. It aims to reintroduce the wizarding world to a new generation while staying true to the original source material.
Newcomers Step Into Iconic Roles
Dominic McLaughlin, cast as The Boy Who Lived, will take on the title role of Harry Potter. Arabella Stanton joins the cast as the brilliant and brave Hermione Granger, while Alastair Stout steps into the shoes of the loyal and loveable Ron Weasley.
“After an extraordinary search led by casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are delighted to announce we have found our Harry, Hermione, and Ron,” said showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner and director-executive producer Mark Mylod in a joint statement.
“The talent of these three unique actors is wonderful to behold, and we cannot wait for the world to witness their magic together onscreen. We would like to thank all the tens of thousands of children who auditioned. It’s been a real pleasure to discover the plethora of young talent out there.”
A Faithful Adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Novels
The HBO Original Harry Potter series is being developed as a faithful adaptation of the bestselling novels by J.K. Rowling, who also serves as an executive producer. Each season will dive deeply into one of the seven books, giving fans and newcomers alike a chance to explore the story in greater detail. See more casting news here.
The show will stream exclusively on HBO Max, including new launch markets such as Germany, Italy, and the United Kingdom. The original Harry Potter films will continue to remain available globally.
Behind the Scenes Magic
Francesca Gardiner (Succession) wrote and executive produced the series. Mark Mylod, known for directing standout episodes of Game of Thrones and Succession, will executive produce and direct several episodes. The project is a co-production between HBO, Warner Bros. Television, and Brontë Film and TV.
Additional executive producers include J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, and Ruth Kenley-Letts of Brontë Film and TV, along with David Heyman of Heyday Films, who produced all eight original films.
As the world prepares to revisit the halls of Hogwarts once again, all eyes will be on this new cast of young wizards ready to make their mark.
