House of David Season 2 brings the Age of Iron to life.

Season Two of the biblical drama “House of David,” from Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios, continues the story of David’s rise to power following his fateful victory over Goliath. As the young warrior navigates palace intrigue, jealousy, and romance, his journey toward becoming a great leader takes center stage.
Director Jon Gunn returns for the new season, which he says was developed and filmed with remarkable speed. “We were actually shooting season two when season one aired,” Gunn told Nerdtropolis. “The response was beyond what we could have imagined, and it gave us a boost while we were pushing through a quick turnaround.”
Balancing Scope and Humanity
Gunn emphasized that Season Two deepens the emotional complexity of the story while expanding its scale. “David stepping into his destiny is going to come at a great cost,” he said. “That means big battle scenes and epic scope—but also all of the drama within the palace and within the family’s relationships. This season is so much more complex within the relationships and so much bigger in scope and scale.”
The Age of Iron and Transformation
Set during the Iron Age, the new season uses the shift from bronze to iron as a metaphor for transformation. Gunn explained, “Our show is set right at that transition from the age of brawn to the age of iron. If you’ve got iron and your enemy doesn’t, you have a massive advantage. Goliath’s iron sword symbolizes this new power—and David himself becomes a weapon forged in fire.”

He added that the historical authenticity also helps modern audiences connect with the story’s universal themes. “It’s fun to get into the details of what it was to make iron when no one really knew how to make it and how it would change the world,” Gunn said.
Michael’s Dual Talents Shine
Returning star Michael Iskander, who plays David, continues to be celebrated not just for his performance but for his musical gifts. Gunn revealed that music remains central to the character this season. “He’s a warrior poet all the way to the end,” he said. “We’re releasing a soundtrack this season with his psalms because fans have been asking for it. He learned to play the lyre for real, and there are moments when he’s singing live on set—it’s beautiful for everyone to hear.”

Gunn praised the actor’s influence on the creative process. “His voice shaped the melodies of the score itself. The moment we met him, he sent us a song, and we said, ‘We want as much of this in the show as possible.’”
A Story That Transcends Faith
House of David blends biblical storytelling with universal themes of destiny and courage. “It naturally serves both faith audiences and those just looking for great drama,” Gunn said. “This is, in many ways, the origin of the hero’s journey. Whether it’s Frodo, Luke Skywalker, or Spider-Man, we all recognize the story of someone plucked from obscurity with a destiny greater than they imagined.”
Behind the Scenes: Animals, Weather, and Real Challenges
Filming in authentic outdoor settings brings its share of challenges—and occasional laughs. “As sweet as sheep are for a shepherd to have, they’re noisy and annoying,” Gunn said, laughing. “We’ll be in the middle of an intimate scene and suddenly hear a sheep bleating in the background.”

From unpredictable weather to horses wandering into frame, Gunn said the crew embraced the chaos. “If it starts pouring rain, we deal with it. If the wind kicks up, we live with it. It gives the show a lot of real mood and authenticity.”
Collaborations Beyond House of David
Gunn also reflected on his experiences directing Alan Ritchson (Reacher) in Ordinary Angels and Zachary Levi in American Underdog and The Unbreakable Boy. “Alan brought so much humanity and vulnerability to that role,” Gunn said. “He’s got this big presence but a great sensitivity and warmth. I’d love to work with him again.”
On Levi, Gunn recalled, “Zach was training for football for American Underdog while we were filming The Unbreakable Boy during early COVID. He has all the qualities you want in a leading man—heart, charm, and humor.”
House of David Season Two premieres October 5, 2025, exclusively on Wonder Project’s subscription offering on Prime Video in the U.S.
