Colin Farrell discusses the transformation into The Penguin.

At the recent press conference for The Penguin, Matt Reeves, Colin Farrell, Lauren LeFranc, Cristin Milioti, and additional cast members provided key insights into the highly anticipated HBO Max series. Matt Reeves the show’s executive producer kicked off the press conference. He discussed the show’s origins, explaining how The Batman inspired the idea to explore Oz Cobb’s rise to power, portraying his character’s ambition as a “dark American dream.”

Colin Farrell, who plays Oz Cobb, talked about channeling characters like those from The Godfather and The Untouchables to shape his portrayal of The Penguin. He credited prosthetics designer Mike Marino for creating the transformative makeup, which Farrell said helped him “step into the character” and fully immerse in the role.

Lauren LeFranc, the showrunner and writer, discussed building Gotham without Batman, focusing on compelling characters to anchor the story. Cristin Milioti, who plays Sofia Falcone, expressed her excitement about the role, calling it a dream come true for a lifelong Batman fan.


Rhenzy Feliz and Deirdre O’Connell, who also star in the series, shared their thoughts during the event. Feliz delved into his character’s relationship with Oz, while O’Connell discussed the dynamic between her character and Farrell’s, highlighting the mother-son connection. Makeup designer Mike Marino also spoke about the detailed process of crafting Farrell’s Penguin look, which took over two hours each day.
