IT: Welcome to Derry Season 2 Officially Renewed at HBO

Pennywise will return in a new Great Depression-era story centered on a group of robbers targeting Derry.

No one could keep Pennywise in the dark for long and fortunately, HBO and HBO Max knew to bring him back into the limelight. HBO officially confirmed that It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 is now in development!

The critically-acclaimed horror series, which is executive produced by Andy and Barbara Muschietti, will bring viewers back to Derry for a few more scares. However, Season 2 will be taking place during the Great Depression and focus on a group of robbers who try to take advantage of the town.

A tease of this could be seen in the official opening for It: Welcome to Derry, where Pennywise is mowing down civilians with a tommy gun in the streets. However, much of what’s in store for Season 2 is still floating in the air.

Previously, It: Welcome to Derry followed a group of kids, some of whom would play an important role in the creation of the Losers Club, who Pennywise hunted down. These kids, including Lilly, Veronica, Will, Rich, and Marge, were put through hell, from being tortured in weird visions to the eventual destruction of the Black Spot. However, this was only because Marge would eventually give birth to Ritchie Tozier and Will would become Mike’s father.

In the finale, it was revealed that Pennywise had the ability to travel back in time, leaving the question of whether or not what he would do up to viewers. With Season 2’s logline, it appears that Pennywise indeed does have that power and may change the course of events for the 1960s kids as well as the Losers Club.

Although there have not been any official castings as of yet, fans can expect Bill Skarsgård to reprise his role as Pennywise in It: Welcome to Derry Season 2.

Andy and Barbara Muschietti Tease More IT Terror

“Continuing to explore and expand on the amazing world Stephen King created is an absolute privilege,” Andy and Barbara Muschietti shared in a quote. “The support of our partners at HBO and Warner Bros. Television is priceless. Boy do we love our jobs!”

“We are excited to return to the chilling world of Derry and to further expand on Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s horrifically iconic adaptation,” Sarah Aubrey, head of HBO Max Original Programming, stated. “Together with Brad Caleb Kane, they will break new ground in season two, deepening the terror, the mystery, and the unforgettable Pennywise lore that fans love to devour.”

In addition to Andy and Barbara Muschietti returning for Season 2, Brad Caleb Kane will also be returning as showrunner. However, Jason Fuchs will not be returning to help showrun It: Welcome to Derry Season 2. Roy Lee, Dan Lin, Jamie Travis, and Dhana Gilbert will serve as executive producers.

All episodes of It: Welcome to Derry Season 1 are now streaming on HBO Max.
