Prime Video has unveiled a thrilling first look at its upcoming action comedy film, “Jackpot,” ahead of its global premiere on August 15, 2024. The film’s premise is set in a near-future California where a sinister twist on the lottery unfolds: win the grand prize, but your life is on the line until sundown. In “Jackpot,” Awkwafina stars as Katie Kim, a newcomer to Los Angeles who unwittingly becomes the target of a deadly pursuit after winning the coveted “Grand Lottery.” Her only hope for survival rests on the unlikely alliance she forms with Noel Cassidy, portrayed by John Cena. Cassidy, an amateur lottery protection agent, offers his services in exchange for a slice of Katie’s immense fortune, pitting him against formidable adversaries like the slick Louis Lewis, played by Simu Liu, who is equally determined to secure Katie’s winnings.
Originally known as “Grand Death Lotto,” this high-stakes escapade is directed by Paul Feig and penned by Rob Yescombe. Feig, known for his work on hits like “Bridesmaids” and “Ghostbusters,” promises an adrenaline-fueled ride through a dangerous game of life and death. The rated R action-packed comedy stars Awkwafina, John Cena, and Simu Liu. It also features Ayden Mayeri, Donald Elise Watkins, Sam Asghari, Murray Hill, and more.
