Johnsonville and Dr Pepper launch the first-ever Dr. Pepper-inspired sausage nationwide.

America did not have this on its bingo card. However, we are absolutely here for it.
Beginning March 1, Johnsonville and Dr Pepper are officially rolling out the Johnsonville Dr Pepper Inspired Sausage nationwide. The limited-time collaboration blends the soda giant’s iconic 23-flavor profile with America’s No. 1 sausage brand in what may be the boldest grocery aisle crossover of the year.
After months of buzz, debate, and social media side-eyes, the never-before-tasted sausage is finally available at major retailers, including Walmart, Kroger, and 7-Eleven, as well as on roller grills across the country.
A Sausage Built on 23 Flavors
Johnsonville worked closely with Dr Pepper to translate the soft drink’s signature 23-flavor blend into its classic pork sausage. The result delivers a sweet and savory finish, the brands are calling “SWALTY.” That means subtle sweetness layered with smoky depth and salt-forward richness.
Dr Pepper’s flavor profile has long been used in marinades and barbecue sauces. Therefore, transforming it into sausage feels both surprising and strangely logical. This collaboration leans into that backyard barbecue energy while pushing into new territory.

Jamie Schmelzer, vice president of marketing at Johnsonville, said the brand wanted to create something fun and unexpected. He acknowledged that early reactions have been polarized. Still, he hopes fans will gather, taste it, and decide for themselves whether they love it or hate it.
Meanwhile, Derek Dabrowski, senior vice president of brand marketing at Dr Pepper, said the soda brand is always looking for bold ways to show up in fans’ lives. He noted that Dr Pepper’s 23 flavors have flavored home-cooked meats for years, so turning that taste into a sausage felt unexpected yet natural.
Designed for Hangouts in an “Antisocial Century”
The launch arrives at a time when Americans are socializing less. According to Johnsonville’s annual National Temperature Check conducted by the Harris Poll, 73 percent of Americans hang out less than they used to. Additionally, 51 percent say socializing feels more uncomfortable now.
However, there is optimism. The same research found that 76 percent agree that getting out of their comfort zone is good for them. Even more telling, 91 percent believe delicious food makes hanging out more fun.
That insight sits at the heart of this collaboration. Johnsonville and Dr Pepper are positioning the sausage as a conversation starter. Whether it sparks heated BBQ debates or genuine culinary curiosity, it gives people something to gather around.
How to Cook and Top the Dr Pepper Sausage
The Johnsonville Dr Pepper Inspired Sausage comes in both fully cooked and uncooked varieties. That flexibility opens the door for experimentation.

You can lean into smoky barbecue sauces for a deeper profile. Alternatively, try stone-ground mustard for bite. Hot honey can amplify the sweetness. Caramelized onions and grilled peppers add balance and texture. From breakfast skillets to tailgates and backyard cookouts, there are no official rules.
For purists, this may feel like heresy. For flavor adventurers, it feels like destiny.
From Sheboygan Falls to Nationwide Shelves
Johnsonville, based in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin, has built its reputation on classic sausage varieties since 1945. The company sells more than 80 types of sausage in over 40 countries. Meanwhile, Dr Pepper, first introduced in 1885, remains one of the most recognizable soft drinks in America.
Now, those two legacies collide in grocery aisles across the country.

The Johnsonville Dr Pepper Inspired Sausage officially arrives on March 1. Love it or question everything about it, one thing is clear. America is talking. And someone is definitely throwing this on the grill.
