Scheduled to release on October 9, 2024, “Joker: Folie à Deux” promises to take viewers back to the chaotic streets of Gotham City. Phoenix will return to reprise his role as the Joker, while Lady Gaga will play Harley Quinn, adding a musical twist to the movie. Gaga’s addition to the cast has heightened the anticipation around the sequel. The title “Folie à Deux,” which means “madness shared by two,” suggests the complex relationship between the Joker and Harley Quinn, exploring their twisted connection in greater depth. Director Todd Phillips aims to push the boundaries of storytelling by presenting the film as a musical thriller, providing a unique sensory experience in the superhero genre.

Joining Phoenix and Gaga are Catherine Keener, Brendan Gleeson, and Zazie Beetz, who reprises her role from the first film. With “Folie à Deux” releasing precisely five years after the original “Joker,” fans can expect the sequel to build upon its predecessor’s success while offering a fresh and innovative take on the beloved characters. James, a Warner Bros. representative, confirmed that the film will exist as an Elseworlds title in the DC Universe.
