Joker Year One Announced By DC

Joker Year One will unveil the Dark origins of Batman’s arch-nemesis.

DC Comics has announced a spine-chilling three-part tale, “The Joker Year One.” The story that will unravel is the enigmatic origins of the Clown Prince of Crime. It is set to unfold across Batman #142–144 in February 2024. This weekly event will send shockwaves through the world of Gotham and its caped guardian. Following the conclusion of the “Mindbomb” storyline in January’s Batman #141, readers will be plunged into the depths of the Joker’s unsettling past. The story is by Chip Zdarsky, Giuseppe Camuncoli, Stefano Nesi, Andrea Sorrentino, Alejandro Sánchez, and Dave Stewart. “The Joker Year One” promises to be a captivating exploration of the iconic villain’s beginnings.

The journey commences in Batman #142.

This is where Zdarsky and the artistic team delve into the haunting aftermath of the Red Hood Gang leader’s plunge into a vat of chemicals. Shrouded in myth, this tragic event catalyzes a tale that will challenge everything readers thought they knew about The Joker. As the narrative unfolds, how these revelations impact Batman’s distant future will hang in the balance.

Throughout the series, artists Andrea Sorrentino and Dave Stewart illustrate the far-reaching consequences The Joker will impose on DC’s Caped Crusader. Batman #142 will be available on February 6, 2024, marking the commencement of this chilling exploration into the mind of one of fiction’s most notorious villains. Continuing the saga, Batman #143, hitting shelves on February 13, 2024, promises to deepen the mystery as a mysterious figure from Batman’s past intersects with the Joker’s chaotic path. Simultaneously, the re-formed Red Hood Gang harbors secrets that may shape Batman’s future in unexpected ways.

The grand finale, Batman #144, arrives on February 20, 2024.

We will see the Red Hood Gang on a rampage, with only The Joker capable of halting their destructive course. As the narrative unfolds, Batman must grapple with a devastating new virus in a future overshadowed by The Joker’s venom. Post-“The Joker Year One,” readers can anticipate the “Dark Prisons” storyline, spanning Batman #145–#148. In this arc, Batman faces a formidable figure from his past, bracing himself against Zur’s onslaught. Should Batman emerge victorious, a new adversary emerges from Amanda Waller and the U.S. military, ensuring Gotham’s Dark Knight is never free from adversity.
