Selena Gomez Makes Directorial Debut as Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Returns for Final Event

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Executive Producer and guest star Selena Gomez to make directorial debut.

The Russo family is gearing up for one final magical adventure as “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” returns this summer on Disney+, Disney Channel, and Disney Channel On Demand. The four-part event continues the story of the Emmy Award-winning Disney Channel classic and is set to begin production next week.

Executive producer and guest star Selena Gomez will make her directorial debut by helming the premiere episode. Gomez will also reprise her beloved role as Alex Russo in multiple episodes, marking a major milestone for the franchise that helped launch her global career.

The revival has already proven to be a strong performer with audiences, attracting both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers. Since its launch, the continuation has generated more than 101 million views on Disney Channel’s YouTube platform and ranked among the top five streaming titles across key demographics, including kids ages 6–11, teens ages 12–17, and adults ages 18–24.

The Story Continues for the Russo Family

The four-part event centers on Billie as she struggles with the emotional aftermath of losing Alex at the end of Season 2. In her search to rescue her mother, Billie learns the only path forward is reconnecting with her long-lost father. As the family comes together to find Alex, Billie realizes their combined magical abilities may be the only way to stop the powerful evil threatening the Russo legacy.

The new chapter blends nostalgia with fresh storytelling, expanding the magical universe while keeping the heart and humor that made the original series a fan favorite.

Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Cast and Creative Team

The series stars David Henrie as Justin Russo alongside Janice LeAnn Brown as Billie, Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo, Max Matenko as Milo Russo, Taylor Cora as Winter, and Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo.

Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas serve as writers and executive producers. Additional executive producers include Gary Marsh, Jonas Agin, Rick Williams, Gomez, and Henrie. The original series was created by Todd Greenwald.

A Disney Channel Legacy Returns

Originally airing from 2007 through 2012, “Wizards of Waverly Place” followed the Russo siblings as they balanced everyday life with learning to control their magical abilities. The series became one of Disney Channel’s most recognizable franchises and helped propel Gomez into worldwide success as both an actress and recording artist.

All episodes from the first two seasons of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” are currently available to stream on Disney+, giving fans time to revisit the story before the final chapter premieres this summer.
