Mortal Kombat II Drops a Johnny Cage Bomb with Hilarious “Uncaged Fury” Tease

The wait for Mortal Kombat II just got a whole lot punchier.

To hype up the official trailer drop, Warner Bros. has released a surprise fake movie trailer titled Uncaged Fury, featuring Karl Urban fully decked out as Johnny Cage—and it’s as gloriously over-the-top as you’d expect. Styled like a cheesy ‘80s action flick, this tongue-in-cheek teaser is a fun meta nod to Cage’s Hollywood roots and a wink to longtime fans of the franchise.

Johnny Cage Steps Into the Spotlight

For Mortal Kombat fans, Johnny Cage has always been a standout. First introduced in the original 1992 arcade game, Cage was modeled after action icons like Jean-Claude Van Damme—an egotistical yet lovable movie star who also happens to be a martial arts powerhouse. His flashy moves, split punches, and cocky one-liners made him an instant fan favorite.

While he was notably absent from the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, fans have been clamoring for his debut—and now, they’re finally getting it. Karl Urban (The Boys, Dredd) is taking on the role, and judging by Uncaged Fury, he’s having a blast doing it.

From Earthrealm to Hollywood (and Back)

Uncaged Fury is filled with retro action flair, complete with neon lighting, cheesy dialogue, slow-motion roundhouse kicks, and one very dramatic aviator-sunglass moment. It’s exactly the kind of fake movie Johnny Cage would star in—and the kind of tease that makes the wait for the real trailer even more unbearable (in a good way).

This marks the official ramp-up to Mortal Kombat II, the sequel to 2021’s live-action reboot that introduced a gritty new take on the legendary fighting game franchise. That film gave fans brutal fatalities, intense fights, and reintroduced core characters like Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Sonya Blade, and Kano—but left Johnny Cage as a post-credits tease.

When and Where to Watch

The full trailer for Mortal Kombat II is just around the corner, dropping tomorrow, and based on this clever marketing move, it’s safe to say Warner Bros. is leaning into the fun, fan-service, and blood-soaked action this time around.

Mortal Kombat II enters the arena in theaters and IMAX on October 24, 2025.
