Sony Pictures has just dropped an action-packed new trailer for Kraven the Hunter.* the upcoming Spider-Man spinoff delves into the dark origins of one of Marvel’s most iconic villains. The film, directed by J.C. Chandor, promises a visceral, action-packed journey exploring how and why Sergei Kravinoff, better known as Kraven the Hunter, transformed into one of the most feared adversaries in the Marvel universe.

Set to hit theaters with an R rating, Kraven the Hunter is a bold move for Sony’s Marvel universe, pushing the envelope with strong, bloody violence and language. Kraven the Hunter was introduced in 1964 by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko in The Amazing Spider-Man #15. Born Sergei Kravinoff, Kraven is a Russian aristocrat with a taste for the hunt. Unlike typical villains, Kraven sees himself as a sportsman. He is motivated by honor and a desire to prove himself as the ultimate predator. His most famous storyline, “Kraven’s Last Hunt,” is considered one of the greatest Spider-Man stories ever told, showcasing his obsessive pursuit to defeat Spider-Man and prove his superiority.
