Landman cast reflects on Taylor Sheridan’s Texas-based hit.

Landman, the latest series from Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace starring Billy Bob Throton, has taken the world by storm. It has become the #1 Paramount+ original of all time with an astounding 14.9 million global households tuning in. Based on the “Boomtown” podcast, Landman explores the gritty, modern-day boomtowns of West Texas through the lens of oil rig workers and wildcat billionaires. Ths series also stars Ali Larter and Kayla Wallace. The show’s first season has ended, leaving fans eagerly awaiting news of a second season.
In an exclusive interview, cast members Jacob Lofland, James Jordan, and Mark Collie opened up about their experience working on this high-stakes, yet unexpectedly humorous series.
Filming in the Lone Star State
The cast shared their enthusiasm for shooting in Texas, a rare opportunity for many productions. James Jordan, a Houston native, said, “North Texas welcomed us with open arms. The topography is so eclectic—it doubled perfectly for the show’s West Texas setting.” Jordan, who briefly lived in Midland in the late ‘80s, reflected on the region’s stark beauty, describing it as windy, flat, and home to some of the most intense dust storms he’s ever experienced.
High-Stakes Storytelling Under Taylor Sheridan
Jacob Lofland highlighted the importance of “bringing your A-game” under Sheridan’s direction, adding, “Knowing the stakes and having Taylor at the helm pushes you to perform at your best every day.”
Jordan praised the massive scale of Sheridan’s storytelling, which he described as unparalleled on any platform. “The talent, the cinematography, the story—it’s all at the highest level,” he said. Mark Collie compared working on Landman to playing in the Super Bowl: “You have to be ready to play every day, and when you see it all coming together, it feels exhilarating.”
A Surprising Balance of Humor and Drama
While Sheridan is known for gritty narratives, Landman surprised the cast with its humor. “It’s the funniest thing Taylor has written,” Jordan said. “The humor gives the audience room to breathe amidst the high stakes and dramatic set pieces.”
Collie agreed, explaining how moments of levity make the show feel more grounded. “In real life, even in intense situations, there are moments of relief or nervous laughter. That’s what makes the show feel real.”
What’s Next for Landman?
As fans eagerly await word on a second season, the first has left a lasting impression with its raw depiction of the oil industry and the human stories within it.
For now, audiences can savor the cinematic storytelling and dynamic performances that have made Landman a record-breaking success for Paramount+.
