The Last of Us Season 2 Teaser Released to Celebrate TLOU Day 2024

HBO Drops first look at Season 2 of The Last of Us.

In celebration of “The Last of Us Day,” HBO has released the official teaser and artwork for the highly anticipated second season of The Last of Us, the acclaimed original drama series based on the beloved video game franchise by Naughty Dog. Held annually on September 26, “The Last of Us Day” commemorates the in-universe date when the fictional cordyceps virus began its devastating outbreak, a pivotal moment in the story’s timeline. First dubbed “Outbreak Day,” this fan-driven celebration has now reached its 11th year, honoring the franchise’s expansive universe and dedicated fanbase.

The teaser’s release follows the record-breaking success of the first season, which became HBO’s most-watched debut season of all time. Season two of The Last of Us is slated to debut in 2025 on HBO and will also be available to stream on Max, further cementing the series’ place as a major cultural phenomenon.

The second season’s plot picks up five years after the first season’s conclusion.

Joel and Ellie, who formed a deep bond throughout their perilous journey, now find their pasts catching up to them. The duo is drawn into new conflicts, facing a fractured relationship and a world far more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they had previously encountered.

Returning cast members include Pedro Pascal as Joel, Bella Ramsey as Ellie, Gabriel Luna as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley as Maria. Season two will also introduce several new characters from the game’s sequel. These include Kaitlyn Dever as Abby, Isabela Merced as Dina, Young Mazino as Jesse, and Danny Ramirez as Manny. Other new cast members include Tati Gabrielle as Nora, Spencer Lord as Owen, Ariela Barer as Mel, and Jeffrey Wright as Isaac. Additionally, Catherine O’Hara is set to guest star, though details about her character remain under wraps.

The second season promises to delve even deeper into the complex emotional and moral struggles introduced in the first season, continuing to push the boundaries of television storytelling. Fans can look forward to more updates as the 2025 release approaches.
