Laz Alonso Talks ‘Fountain of Youth,’ Filming at the Pyramids, and the End of ‘The Boys’

Laz Alonso teases the Boys Season 5 and adventures in Fountain of Youth.

Laz Alonso is no stranger to globe-spanning action, but his latest adventure in Fountain of Youth took things to a new level — quite literally. The actor sat down with Nerdtropolis to discuss his role in the Guy Ritchie-directed action film, which begins streaming on May 23 on Apple TV+.

Fountain of Youth stars John Krasinski and Natalie Portman as estranged siblings who reunite for a high-stakes heist to locate the legendary spring of immortality. The cast includes Eiza González, Domhnall Gleeson, Arian Moayed, Carmen Ejogo, Stanley Tucci, and Alonso.

“It’s the kind of movie I grew up loving — like Indiana Jones or The Goonies,” Alonso said. “It pulls you out of reality and takes you to these incredible places, some real and some imagined. That’s the magic of movies, and that’s what inspired me to get into this business.”

Alonso confirmed that the cast and crew filmed on location at historic landmarks, including the Pyramids of Giza. “We actually shot at the real pyramids. You feel the weight of that history,” he said. “You see the imperfections and the age of those stones — it adds so much depth to the story and to your performance as an actor.”

In the film, Alonso plays a key supporting role in a globe-trotting plot that spans five countries. The actor said being immersed in authentic settings helped heighten his performance. “It awakens your survival instincts,” he said. “You’re not just playing the character, you’re living it.”

Alonso paused when asked whether he would drink from the actual Fountain of Youth if it existed. “If I were terminally ill, maybe,” he said. “But otherwise, no. The world’s a little too crazy to want to live forever.”

Alonso also shared his fascination with ancient myths and conspiracies, from El Dorado to Atlantis. “I never write them off completely,” he said. “I think humans have forgotten more than we’ve learned.”

The Boys is coming to an end.

Beyond Fountain of Youth, Alonso reflected on the upcoming final season of The Boys, the Emmy-nominated series in which he plays fan-favorite Mother’s Milk.

“We were the little engine that could,” Alonso said. “Seven years ago, it was all Marvel. There wasn’t room for another superhero universe. But our fans made us what we are today.”

Alonso teased a satisfying sendoff for longtime viewers. “Season 5 is our last, and every episode feels like a finale,” he said. “Fans are going to get everything they’ve been waiting for.”

He also shared that he’s heading back to set at 3 a.m., showing no signs of slowing down as the show wraps up. “It’s a hard show to shoot, but it’s worth it because we know the fans are going to love it.”

Fountain of Youth begins streaming on May 23 on Apple TV+.
