SAN ANTONIO — LeVar Burton was honored with the 2025 Lance Reddick Legacy Luminary Award at Space Con San Antonio during a panel dedicated to Star Trek: The Next Generation. The announcement, which arrived earlier than planned, recognized Burton’s outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry and his unwavering dedication to storytelling.
The Lance Reddick Legacy Luminary Award was created to honor the late actor.
He was known for his roles in The Wire, John Wick, and many other notable projects. Reddick’s legacy extends beyond his impressive filmography; he was remembered as a mentor, friend, and source of inspiration. The award, supported by the Reddick family, celebrates individuals who embody the same passion, talent, and commitment to the craft as Reddick. The 2024 recipients were Bad Boys: Ride or Die directors Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah.
At the end of the panel, Burton was acknowledged for his extensive career in film, television, and literature. Burton is known for his iconic portrayal of Kunta Kinte in Roots. He also played the beloved role of Geordi La Forge in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Additionally, his long-standing contributions as the host of Reading Rainbow have left a lasting impact. Burton has inspired countless viewers over the years. His dedication to storytelling, education, and representation has been a beacon for many in the industry.
