Brian Cox and Gaia Wise lead a star-studded cast in The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim arrives this December. It will transport audiences back to the epic world introduced in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, based on the revered works of J.R.R. Tolkien. Award-winning filmmaker Kenji Kamiyama directs it. He is known for his work on Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. The film is set 183 years before the events of the original trilogy.
The War of the Rohirrim centers on the legendary King of Rohan.
Helm Hammerhand, voiced by Brian Cox (Succession), must defend his people against the vengeful Dunlending lord Wulf, played by Luke Pasqualino (Snowpiercer). Gaia Wise (A Walk in the Woods) lends her voice to Héra, Helm’s daughter, who must rise to the challenge of leading the resistance. Watch the trailer below!
The ensemble cast also includes Lorraine Ashbourne (Bridgerton), Yazdan Qafouri (I Came By), and Benjamin Wainwright (World on Fire). Miranda Otto, who famously portrayed Éowyn in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, returns to the franchise as the film’s narrator. She reprises her role as the Shieldmaiden of Rohan. The film delves into the defense of the Hornburg, the fortress later known as Helm’s Deep. Facing overwhelming odds, Héra and the people of Rohan must fight for survival against Wulf’s forces, determined to annihilate them in retaliation for his father’s death.

Oscar winner Philippa Boyens produces the film. She is one of the key contributors to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies. The War of the Rohirrim promises to be a visually stunning adventure. It features a creative team that includes Oscar winners Alan Lee and Richard Taylor. Joining them is esteemed Tolkien illustrator John Howe. The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim will be released in cinemas on December 13, 2024.
