The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is a prequel to the trilogy.

Get ready to journey back to the enchanting world of Middle-earth. New Line Cinema has unveiled the first look photos from its upcoming anime feature, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim.” This eagerly anticipated film returns to the epic universe initially introduced in “The Lord of the Rings” Trilogy, inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved literary works.

Directing is Kenji Kamiyama. He is known for his work on Blade Runner: Black Lotus and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. This animated adventure is brought to life by an extraordinary voice cast. Leading the charge is Brian Cox, of ‘Succession’ fame. He lends his voice to Helm Hammerhand, the formidable King of Rohan. Joining him are Gaia Wise as Héra, Helm’s daughter, and Luke Pasqualino as Wulf, the cunning adversary. And, in a thrilling return, Miranda Otto reprises her role as Éowyn, the valiant Shieldmaiden of Rohan, serving as the narrator for this epic tale.

This animated feature unfolds 183 years before the events of the original film trilogy.
‘The War of the Rohirrim’ is a gripping saga. It delves into the House of Helm Hammerhand, the revered ruler of Rohan. When a sudden assault by Wulf, a relentless Dunlending lord seeking retribution for his father’s demise, forces Helm and his people to make a defiant last stand at the ancient Hornburg fortress, later known as Helm’s Deep, Héra is thrust into a position of leadership. Faced with imminent peril, she must rally her people to withstand the onslaught of a merciless foe bent on their annihilation.

Behind the scenes, the creative team is helmed by Oscar-winner Philippa Boyens. She is renowned for her work on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit Trilogies. Jason DeMarco and Joseph Chou, veterans of animated storytelling, collaborate with Boyens. The executive producers include Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, Sam Register, Carolyn Blackwood, and Toby Emmerich.
It is scheduled for theatrical release worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures on December 13, 2024. “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” promises to captivate audiences anew with its rich storytelling and breathtaking animation. It will deliver a cinematic experience that transports viewers back to the fantastical realm of Middle-earth.
