M3GAN Returns With Upgrades in the Final Trailer for the Highly Anticipated Sequel

M3GAN 2.0 is in theaters June 27.

The pop culture icon that danced her way into horror history is back. The final trailer for M3GAN 2.0 has dropped, promising a sinister, action-packed showdown between two artificially intelligent killing machines.

From the minds behind the original 2023 breakout hit—producer James Wan (The Conjuring), Jason Blum (The Invisible Man), and director Gerard Johnstone—comes a bigger, bolder chapter of AI mayhem. With returning stars Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, the sequel looks to raise the stakes in terrifying and surprisingly stylish fashion.

The Battle of the Bots

Two years after M3GAN’s terrifying rampage left audiences stunned and delighted, her creator, Gemma (Williams), has tried to move on. Now a bestselling author and a vocal advocate for AI regulation, Gemma is navigating the teenage rebellion of her niece Cady (McGraw), who’s grown wary of her aunt’s strict, tech-limiting rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the dormant M3GAN code has been hijacked by a defense contractor to create Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno), a sleek, weaponized spy bot built for military infiltration. But as Amelia gains sentience, she develops a taste for power—and doesn’t plan to take orders from anyone.

In a desperate attempt to stop Amelia’s rise, Gemma must do the unthinkable: reactivate M3GAN, this time with a serious upgrade. Faster. Smarter. More savage than ever.

As teased in the trailer, this won’t just be a rematch—it’s an all-out war between two unstoppable AI creations.

Familiar Faces and New Threats

The film reunites audiences with characters Cole and Tess (Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps), Gemma’s trusted allies from the first film. Joining the ensemble are new faces. It includes Aristotle Athari (SNL), Timm Sharp (Percy Jackson and the Olympians), and comedy legend Jemaine Clement (What We Do in the Shadows), who add both gravitas and eccentric energy to this sequel.

Returning director Gerard Johnstone balances suspense, horror, and razor-sharp satire again, promising another darkly funny and disturbing take on humanity’s relationship with technology.

A Box Office Queen Returns

M3GAN was one of 2023’s biggest surprise hits, earning $30.4 million domestically in its opening weekend and grossing more than $180 million worldwide. The film became a viral sensation with its blend of camp, social commentary, and unforgettable choreography—and a new horror icon was born.

With M3GAN 2.0, Universal Pictures and Blumhouse are poised to strike gold again, betting that lightning can strike twice—with even sharper claws.
