Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia lead Netflix’s colorful and heartfelt Bollywood-fusion dance movie.

School’s almost back in session, so it’s time to put the pep back in that step with Netflix’s Best of the Best! The official trailer for the upcoming film, starring Never Have I Ever‘s Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, has released, giving viewers a peek into some of the fun that will be had.
The first looks at Best of the Best presented viewers with a flashy, colorful, extravagant numbers one can expect from Lena Khan’s inspired musical film. Now that the trailer is out, viewers can expect more heart and soul between Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia’s characters, who might be going head to head if college splits them up.
Best of the Best follows Maya and Anjali, two childhood friends who join UCLA’s competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team. Unfortunately for them, they soon discover that the road to winning the U.S. Championship is far more raucous and cutthroat than they ever imagined.

In the past, fans have gotten to see Ramakrishnan in Never Have I Ever as the aspiring Devi as well as in Pixar’s Turning Red as Mei’s friend, Priya. Meanwhile, some may be familiar with Kedia from Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day, which recently dropped earlier this year.
Ramakrishnan and Kedia also shared their love for the sisterhood that their characters, Maya and Anjali, have with Netflix TUDUM. “[Maya]’s quite combative, but I love her. She’s not just your surface-level hard-ass. She’s vulnerable, and she really just wants to be loved,” Ramakrishnan said.
“I’ve been [Anjali] before, and I still am her in small ways,” Kedia added. “I think we’re meeting Anjali on this really beautiful journey where she’s learning who she is outside the roles she’s used to playing — whether that’s the obedient daughter or unconditional best friend.”
Previously, Khan also talked about the emotional core that makes Best of the Best special. “The biggest thing is that it goes very deep, but also goes very big,” Khan mentioned. “You get a movie that’s really exciting, but also heartfelt. I think sometimes you want to be able to sit down and have a good time that also [feels] really rich, and it gave you that.”
