Hulu drops first look at the new Malcolm in the Middle series.

A new teaser for the Malcolm in the Middle revival promises that time has not softened the Wilkerson family’s talent for turning everyday life into pure disaster. Titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair, the revival is a four-part event that will stream on Hulu on April 10. The story finds Malcolm dragged back into the family orbit after more than a decade of keeping his distance.
The Setup: A 40th Anniversary Party and No Escape Route
After shielding himself from his family for over 10 years, Malcolm (Frankie Muniz) gets pulled back in when Hal (Bryan Cranston) and Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) demand he show up for their 40th anniversary party. The event becomes the spark that reunites Malcolm with the people who made his childhood equal parts genius, stress, and survival.

The revival also adds a new layer to Malcolm’s life. He is now a father, and the four-part story follows him as he and his daughter reunite with the family he tried to avoid.
Who’s Back and Who’s New
The revival brings back the core cast, with Bryan Cranston as Hal, Frankie Muniz as Malcolm, Jane Kaczmarek as Lois, Christopher Kennedy Masterson as Francis, Justin Berfield as Reese, and Emy Coligado as Piama. One familiar face will look a little different this time, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark stepping in as Dewey. The series also adds Keeley Karsten as Leah, Malcolm’s daughter, Vaughan Murrae as Kelly, Malcolm’s youngest sibling, and Kiana Madeira as Tristan, Malcolm’s girlfriend.
Why the Original Still Hits
The original Malcolm in the Middle became a TV staple by treating family dysfunction like a contact sport. It mixed sharp jokes with real emotion, then built a world where every small problem could explode into a full-blown crisis. Malcolm’s intelligence never came with peace, and his parents’ love never came with quiet.
That combination still works, even years later. I just binged the full series again, and the pace and punchlines still hit so hard that another rewatch is already on deck.
Behind the Scenes: Creators and Producers Return
Linwood Boomer, who created the original series, returns as writer and executive producer. Cranston is also an executive producer, alongside Tracy Katsky of KatCo, Gail Berman, and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan, and Natalie Lehmann.
Ken Kwapis directed all four episodes and executive-produced. Jimmy Simons and Laura Delahaye serve as co-executive producers. The series is produced by Disney Branded Television and 20th Television.
