Prime Video’s God of War casts Mandy Patinkin as the al-father Odin.

Mandy Patinkin has signed on to play Odin in Prime Video’s live-action “God of War,” from Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. Based on PlayStation’s massively popular, ancient mythology-themed video game, the series has received a two-season order, with pre-production underway in Vancouver and casting now ramping up.

Previously announced cast members include Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Max Parker as Heimdall, and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor.
Odin Is Positioned as Kratos’s formidable antagonist
Odin, the All-Father, is described as not physically imposing or particularly god-like. However, looks can be deceiving. He is the most powerful Aesir god, a patriarch who leads with an iron fist and is an unrivaled seeker of knowledge.
When it comes to prophecy, Odin is described as paranoid, manipulative, and dangerous. He will do anything to try to prevent Ragnarök, the Norse end of days. In the series, he serves as a formidable antagonist to Kratos.
The Series Story Follows Kratos and Atreus
“God of War” follows father and son Kratos and Atreus as they embark on a journey to spread the ashes of their wife and mother, Faye. Through their adventures, Kratos tries to teach his son to be a better god. Atreus, meanwhile, tries to teach his father how to be a better human.

Emmy Award-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye has signed on to direct the first two episodes of “God of War.” His recent credits include “Shōgun,” “The Boys,” and “Fallout.” The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.
Patinkin’s Recent Work Spans Film, TV, and Stage
Patinkin recently completed “November 1963,” directed by Roland Joffé. He also recently wrapped “The Artist,” directed by Aram Rappaport for The Network. Most recently, Patinkin can be seen in NBC’s “Brilliant Minds.”

He earned multiple nominations for Showtime’s award-winning series “Homeland,” where he played CIA agent Saul Berenson. Earlier in his television career, he won an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe for his performance in CBS’s “Chicago Hope.”
A graduate of Juilliard in New York City, Patinkin has built a career across theater, film, television, concerts, and recording. His Broadway debut as Che in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” earned him his first Tony Award. He later received another Tony nomination in 1984 for “Sunday in the Park With George.”
