Marvel Studios Reveals Major MCU Casting News, Surprise Appearances and Exclusive Footage at San Diego Comic-Con 2026,
After many weeks of speculation, Marvel Studios finally came back to San Diego Comic Con to deliver some of their biggest announcements yet. With Spider-Man: Brand New Day and Avengers: Doomsday close at hand, Marvel Studios brought fans exciting news about where the Marvel Cinematic Universe is going next.
Nerdtropolis was on the ground at Hall H to see what Marvel Studios announced at their star-studded panel. Check out all the highlights from tonight’s show down below!
Ryan Gosling Officially Joins the MCU as Ghost Rider
The biggest surprise of Marvel Studios’ panel was the announcement of Ryan Gosling as Ghost Rider. Gosling’s casting within the Marvel Cinematic Universe has been rumored for several years. However, Feige finally confirmed that the La La Land and Project Hail Mary star will officially be Johnny Blaze.
Taking the Hall H stage alongside Feige was Gosling himself, who will be starring in Star Wars: Starfighter as well. On numerous occassions, Gosling stated that he would love to join any Marvel cinematic world as Ghost Rider. However, most of those talks were only rumors until Marvel Studios’ 2026 panel.
Additionally, it was also confirmed that Deadpool and Wolverine‘s Shawn Levy will be returning to the franchise to direct the upcoming film.
Ghost Rider will release in theaters on 2028.
Avengers: Endgame Encore Arrives First at San Diego Comic Con 2026
The first project featured at Hall H was Avengers: Endgame‘s encore. A sizzle reel showing the Avengers, Loki, Sam Wilson, Spider-Man, and other Marvel heroes opened the panel with a bang. Then, Kevin Feige took the stage, briefly confirming that Vision Quest will be the finale of the WandaVision trilogy. However, the panel would only be film-focused.
The first trailer for Avengers: Endgame Encore also premiered, showcasing new footage of Steve Roger returning the Infinity Stones and Tony Stark’s line, “You mess with time, it tends to mess back.”
Avengers: Endgame returns to theaters on September 25.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Swings Into Hall H With New Footage
The next project that took the stage was Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which releases in theaters next week. Jon Bernthal joined Feige at the panel to show fans exclusive footage from Peter Parker’s next adventure.
The footage that was shown sees Peter Parker and the Punisher fighting the Hulk. It appears that Bruce Banner retained some semblance of intelligence for Hulk to be smart as the Hulk catches one of the Punisher’s grenades. However, the grenade blows up and Peter and Frank continue bickering about stopping the Hulk.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day releases in theaters on July 29.
Avengers: Doomsday Storms the Stage at San Diego Comic Con
Avengers: Doomsday was featured next as Anthony and Joe Russo joined Feige to introduce the star-studded cast. Sam Wilson’s Avengers, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, and the New Avengers all lined up behind Hall H’s grand stage, but Robert Downey Jr. took the crowd by storm.
Furthermore, it was confirmed that Hayley Atwell wil be returning for the culminating film. Whether she’ll be playing the main Peggy Carter or What If…?‘s Captain Carter remains to be seen. Downey Jr. and Atwell were also joined by Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans.
Pascal also confirmed that Reed Richards and Doctor Doom shared a connection in the past. Ryan Reynolds also made a fun appearance as Deadpool, asking Paul Rudd why Thor was crying, making a joke about Welcome to Wrexham. Reynolds also implied that Deadpool may have more to do, but he won’t be in Avengers: Doomsday.
Fans also got to watch exclusive footage from Avengers: Doomsday. In the footage, Sue Storm described who Doctor Doom was, but didn’t know how broken Doom was. Doom mentions how everyone lived stolen lives and must give them back, but Reed hates what Doom believes. Thor tries to stop Doom using Stormbreaker, but Doom stops Thor with ease, using his sorcery to throw him away. The end of the footage sees Doom using his magic to bring the Sentinels back to power.
Avengers: Doomsday releases in theaters on December 18.
Black Panther 3 Brings The Long Walk‘s David Jonsson Into the MCU
The last project to be featured was Black Panther 3 with a huge announcement: The Long Walk‘s David Jonsson will be playing T’Challa’s son in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jonsson joined director Ryan Coogler and star Letitia Wright on stage to make the announcement, officially making him the new Black Panther.
Although much about Black Panther 3 has been wrapped in mystery given Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel’s ending left much to ponder as Shuri became the protector of T’Challa’s son. With Jonsson’s casting, it confirms that this new sequel will take place some time in the future after Avengers: Doomsday. However, time will tell to see where Coogler takes Wakanda next.
Black Panther 3 releases in theaters on December 15, 2028.
