The Masters of the Universe live-action film will arrive in 2026.
Nicholas Galitzine, known for his roles in “The Idea of You” and “Red, White & Royal Blue,” has been cast as He-Man in Amazon MGM and Mattel’s upcoming live-action “Masters of the Universe” film. Amazon MGM Studios shared this exciting casting news on social media. This marks another collaboration between Galitzine and Amazon MGM. The film will be directed by Travis Knight, with a script by Chris Butler. It is scheduled for exclusive theatrical release worldwide on June 5, 2026.
The “Masters of the Universe” franchise, created by Mattel, has a rich history that dates back to 1982. That is when the iconic He-Man action figures first hit store shelves. The following year, the animated series “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” debuted. It quickly became a groundbreaking program as one of the first children’s shows to be syndicated on television. The series, which ran for two seasons, focused on the epic battle between He-Man, also known as Prince Adam of Eternia and the evil Skeletor.
He-Man, dubbed the universe’s most powerful man, became a cultural phenomenon. The show’s success led to a variety of spinoffs, including animated series, comic books, and a 1987 live-action film starring Dolph Lundgren as He-Man and Frank Langella as Skeletor. Despite mixed reviews, the film has since garnered a cult following.
