Megalopolis Hitting Theaters This September Thanks To Lionsgate

Lionsgate Studios has sealed the deal to bring Francis Ford Coppola’s grand masterpiece, “Megalopolis,” to theaters across the United States and Canada. Fresh from its captivating premiere at Cannes, the announcement came today from Adam Fogelson, head honcho of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. This agreement marks an extension of the fruitful collaboration between Lionsgate Studios and Coppola’s American Zoetrope banner. Lionsgate has been the go-to distributor for many of Coppola’s timeless classics on home screens, from “Apocalypse Now Final Cut” to “Tucker: The Man and His Dream,” and now they’re taking the helm for “Megalopolis” on both the big screen and home entertainment platforms. “Megalopolis” will hit theaters across the US and Canada, including IMAX screens on September 27th 2024.

Featuring a star-studded cast including Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Jon Voight, Nathalie Emmanuel, and Aubrey Plaza, “Megalopolis” promises to transport audiences into a Roman Epic fable set in a contemporary American landscape. The narrative revolves around the City of New Rome and the clash between visionary artist Cesar Catilina and Mayor Franklyn Cicero, who staunchly defends the status quo. Caught in the middle is socialite Julia Cicero, torn between love and loyalty as she navigates the ideological battlefield.

Penned, produced, and directed by Coppola himself, “Megalopolis” boasts a powerhouse production team including Fred Roos, Barry Hirsch, and Michael Bederman. Executive producers Anahid Nazarian, Barrie Osborne, and Darren Demetre round out the creative force behind this ambitious project.
