The Last Stop In Yuma County – Movie Review

The Last Stop In Yuma County is full of tension and flying bullets.

“The Last Stop in Yuma County” had its world premiere at Fantastic Fest in Austin, TX, and what a rollercoaster of ’70s B-movie action it was! Director Francis Galluppi’s impressive debut captivated me from start to finish. This film is a masterclass in slow-burning suspense, and its great ensemble cast, led by the impeccable Jim Cummings, elevated it to greatness.

Set in an isolated rest stop, the film’s plot follows a traveling knife salesman (Jim Cummings) who becomes an unwitting witness to a violent showdown when two bank robbers, played menacingly by Richard Brake and Nicholas Logan, stumble upon the location during their getaway. From the moment the robbers arrive, tension builds, and the slow and deliberate pacing keeps you on the edge of your seat. You can feel the pressure mounting as these characters navigate a precarious situation that could erupt into chaos.

What makes “The Last Stop in Yuma County” special is how it surprises and makes you laugh. When you think you know where the story is going, the director, Galluppi, throws in a surprising twist that amazes you. The movie keeps you interested and guessing all the time. It shows how good Galluppi is at telling stories, especially in his first movie. The actors in the movie are outstanding. Jim Cummings, who plays the salesman caught up in the chaos, gives a performance that feels real and keeps you on edge. Jocelin Donahue, Faizon Love, Michel Abbott Jr., and Alex Essoe also do a great job in their roles, making the whole group of characters feel deep and interesting.

Verdict

I give “The Last Stop in Yuma County” 4 out of 5 stars. It is a heart-pounding ride that harks back to the golden era of gritty ’70s thrillers. It’s a testament to the enduring appeal of B-movie action, and Galluppi’s vision and execution are remarkable. I can’t wait to see what this promising director does next, as “The Last Stop in Yuma County” is a fantastic debut that promises an exciting future in filmmaking.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
