Apple TV expands the Monsterverse as Monarch: Legacy of Monsters teases a bigger season 2.

Apple TV is going bigger for “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” Season 2, and it is not being subtle about it. Today at Apple TV Press Day, the cast took the stage to unveil a new trailer for the next chapter of the Monsterverse series from Legendary Television. The 10-episode second season premieres globally on Friday, Feb. 27, 2026. Apple TV will roll out one new episode every Friday through May 1, 2026.
Season 2 brings back Kurt Russell, Wyatt Russell, Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm. The new season also puts familiar Titans back in play with Godzilla and Kong returning, while a new threat makes its official debut: Titan X.
A Quick Look Back at Season 1’s Mystery
Season 1 followed two siblings who tried to uncover their family’s ties to Monarch, the secretive organization that tracks the world’s monsters. Along the way, the search pulled them deeper into a hidden history that spanned decades.
Those clues also centered on Colonel Lee Shaw, played by Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell. The story moved between the 1950s and the present day, while Monarch faced pressure from what Shaw knew. As the season progressed, the personal story and the larger monster conflict began to collide.
That foundation now sets up Season 2, promising higher stakes and fewer safe places to stand.
Season 2 Heads to Skull Island as Old Ties Snap Back Into Place
Season 2 picks up with Monarch’s fate, and the world’s, hanging in the balance. This time, the saga pushes the story toward Kong’s Skull Island, where long-buried secrets bring heroes and villains back into the same orbit. The trailer teases a new, mysterious village and a mythical Titan rising from the sea. At the same time, the past keeps reaching into the present, and those ripple effects shake up relationships across the board.

Friends start to look like threats. Foes start to look useful. Family bonds also take hits, especially as the danger begins to feel bigger than any one group can control. This new season builds toward what the series describes as a “titan event” looming on the horizon.
Titan X Arrives as a New Monsterverse Threat
Godzilla and Kong return, but Season 2 also introduces a brand-new Titan with a serious presence. The series brings in Titan X, now confirmed as officially on the loose.
The season frames Titan X as more than a new creature in the lineup. It positions Titan X as an emerging force with unclear motives and a massive impact. The trailer leans into the idea of something ancient rising from the deep, with the ocean itself acting like a warning sign.

In addition, Titan X features a bioluminescent look that stands out in the Monsterverse. That visual alone signals a different kind of threat, one that feels eerie before it even attacks. Still, the mystery sits at the center of the season. The show keeps Titan X’s purpose uncertain, which raises the tension around every choice Monarch makes next.
New Faces Join the Cast for Season 2
Alongside the returning ensemble, Season 2 adds several guest stars. The new additions include Takehiro Hira, Amber Midthunder, Curtiss Cook, Cliff Curtis, Dominique Tipper, and Camilo Jiménez Varón.

Their roles remain under wraps, but the expanded lineup fits the season’s wider scope. Skull Island alone brings story opportunities that can support new factions, new agendas, and new conflicts inside Monarch’s orbit.
Apple TV Plans More Monsterverse Series, Including a Young Lee Shaw Prequel
Apple TV is not treating “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” as a one-off. The platform recently announced plans for multiple series set within the Monsterverse, featuring both new and fan-favorite Titans. First up is an untitled prequel centered on a young Lee Shaw. Wyatt Russell will reprise his role as Colonel Lee Shaw and will also executive produce. Joby Harold will serve as showrunner and executive producer.

Meanwhile, Harold will oversee the Monsterverse expansion on Apple TV+ under a newly announced overall deal with Legendary. That approach points to a longer runway for the franchise on streaming, with “Monarch” acting as a key bridge between films and new series stories.
The Monsterverse Keeps Growing on the Big Screen and Beyond
Legendary’s Monsterverse has built a cross-platform universe that centers on humanity’s fight to survive in a world where legendary monsters are real. The franchise launched in 2014 with “Godzilla,” then expanded through “Kong: Skull Island” in 2017. It continued with “Godzilla: King of the Monsters” in 2019 and “Godzilla vs. Kong” in 2021. Most recently, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire” became the franchise’s top-grossing installment and the highest-grossing Godzilla film to date.
Next, the Monsterverse will return to theaters with “Godzilla x Kong: Supernova,” set for release in 2027. In total, the Monsterverse has surpassed $2.5 billion at the global box office. For Apple TV, Season 2 of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” aims to keep that momentum moving. It has returning Titans, a larger playground, and a new monster that could change everything.
Season 2 premieres Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, on Apple TV.
