Karl Urban stars in the brutal video game sequel, hitting theaters October 24.
From New Line Cinema comes Mortal Kombat II, the high-octane sequel to the 2021 reboot of the iconic fighting franchise, bringing even more blood-soaked battles and fan-favorite warriors into the spotlight. Slated to open in theaters and IMAX on October 24, 2025, the film promises to raise the stakes as Earthrealm teeters on the edge of annihilation.
Returning director Simon McQuoid once again steps behind the camera to helm the next chapter in the cinematic saga based on the legendary video game created by Ed Boon and John Tobias. This time, the champions of Earthrealm face off in a no-holds-barred tournament against the brutal forces of Outworld, led by the menacing Shao Kahn.
Johnny Cage Joins the Fight
Joining the ensemble is Karl Urban (The Boys, Thor: Ragnarok), making his debut as the fan-favorite Hollywood fighter Johnny Cage. Urban steps into the role for the first time, bringing Cage’s signature swagger and martial arts prowess to the big screen.
The returning cast includes Adeline Rudolph, Jessica McNamee, Josh Lawson, Ludi Lin, Mehcad Brooks, Tati Gabrielle, Lewis Tan, Damon Herriman, Chin Han, Tadanobu Asano as Lord Raiden, Joe Taslim as Bi-Han, and Hiroyuki Sanada as Hanzo Hasashi / Scorpion.
With a screenplay by Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight, The Umbrella Academy), the film is produced by Todd Garner, James Wan, Toby Emmerich, E. Bennett Walsh, and McQuoid. Executive producers include Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Slater, and Lawrence Kasanoff.
Behind the Scenes Talent Returns
The creative team behind Mortal Kombat II includes director of photography Stephen F. Windon (Furious 7), production designer Yohei Taneda, editor Stuart Levy, and costume designer Cappi Ireland. Rich Delia handles casting, and Benjamin Wallfisch returns to score the sequel following his work on the 2021 film.
With more iconic fighters, gory fatalities, and an all-out war on the horizon, Mortal Kombat II is poised to deliver the ultimate cinematic tournament. Fans of the franchise won’t want to miss what’s next for Earthrealm.
