First National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation Bobbleheads Arrive for the Film’s Anniversary

New bobblehead nine honors a holiday classic, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

To celebrate the anniversary of the 1989 release of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum has unveiled the first officially licensed bobbleheads. They feature the film’s Station Wagon, RV, and Squirrel. All three designs highlight memorable moments from the beloved holiday comedy, which premiered on December 1, 1989.

The new collection marks the first time these three on-screen icons have been turned into bobbleheads. They are produced by the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum, an official National Lampoon licensee. The special edition pieces are individually numbered to 1,989. They are available exclusively through the museum’s online store here. Each bobblehead costs $35. You can also purchase a full set of three for $100. Orders are expected to ship in May.

A Holiday Road Trip Essential

The station wagon featured in Christmas Vacation is a key part of the film’s slapstick humor. While many fans recall the wood-paneled “Wagon Queen Family Truckster” from National Lampoon’s Vacation, the Griswolds upgraded their ride for the 1989 sequel. Two vehicles were built for production: a 1988 Ford Taurus Wagon and a 1989 Ford Taurus Wagon. Both feature custom wood paneling created as an homage to the earlier film.

One of the movie’s signature sequences features Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) driving the family deep into the countryside to find the perfect Christmas tree. The massive tree is strapped to the roof with its roots still attached, creating an image that became synonymous with the film. Earlier, Clark engages in a tense road rivalry with a pickup truck. That aggressiveness results in the wagon becoming lodged under a logging trailer. The family is forced to launch the car off the road and into a tree farm, crashing through a sign marked “TREES.”

The Squirrel That Changed Christmas Morning

Few scenes from Christmas Vacation are as unforgettable as the squirrel chaos. When the Griswolds bring home their freshly chopped tree, they also bring an unexpected guest hiding in the branches. Once the tree warms up inside the house, the panicked squirrel sparks a full-blown panic. It jumps from curtains to furniture as the family scrambles, joined by the household pets, in a scene that turns the living room into a wreck. The moment remains one of the most replayed clips each holiday season.

Cousin Eddie’s Infamous RV Makes the Cut

The collection also includes the dilapidated RV driven by Cousin Eddie. The battered motorhome becomes central to the film’s humor as Eddie parks uninvited in the Griswold driveway and empties its sewage tank into the street. The RV stands as a symbol of Eddie’s chaotic presence, which culminates in him kidnapping Clark’s boss to fix the disappointing Christmas bonus fiasco.

A Celebration for Fans

“We’re thrilled to team up with National Lampoon’s to unveil the first bobbleheads of the station wagon, squirrel, and RV on the anniversary of the iconic movie,” National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum co-founder and CEO Phil Sklar said. “We’ve put a lot of work into these bobbleheads and think fans are going to love them.”
