Doug Bowser to Retire as Nintendo of America President, Devon Pritchard Named Successor

Doug Bowser leaves Nintendo after more than a decade of leadership.

Doug Bowser, President and COO of Nintendo of America, will retire on December 31, 2025, after more than a decade in leadership roles with the company. Nintendo announced Thursday that longtime executive Devon Pritchard will succeed him. Satoru Shibata is also joining Nintendo of America as Chief Executive Officer.

A Decade of Leadership

Bowser’s tenure is marked by some of the company’s most significant milestones. He guided the Switch to record-breaking sales and oversaw the launch of its successor, Switch 2, which quickly became the best-selling console in its initial release period.

Beyond hardware, Bowser also helped expand Nintendo’s reach into films and theme parks, broadening opportunities for fans to connect with the brand’s iconic characters and worlds.

“One of my earliest video game experiences was playing the arcade version of Donkey Kong,” Bowser said. “Leading Nintendo of America has been the honor of a lifetime, and I am proud of what our team has accomplished.”

Devon Pritchard Steps In

Pritchard, a 19-year veteran of the gaming industry, currently serves as Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Revenue, Marketing, and Consumer Experience. She has previously held key roles in Marketing, Business Affairs, and Publisher Relations.

“I am humbled and excited to take on this new role,” Pritchard said. “Doug has been a fantastic mentor, and I look forward to building on the incredible foundation he has helped establish.”

She will also join the Nintendo of America Board of Directors and become an Executive Officer at Nintendo Co., Ltd.

Looking Ahead

Nintendo Co., Ltd. President Shuntaro Furukawa praised Bowser’s contributions. “Doug made numerous contributions to bring smiles to the faces of people connected to Nintendo. I would like to express my gratitude for his strong efforts,” Furukawa said.

With Pritchard stepping into leadership, Nintendo’s mission remains focused on expanding its audience while staying true to its legacy of creating entertainment experiences across video games, film, and themed attractions.
