Nonnas follows Joe (played by Vince Vaughn), a man grieving the loss of his mother and grandmother. Searching for healing, he turns to the one thing that always brought his family together: food. With a small inheritance and a dream, Joe launches Enoteca Maria, a cozy Italian eatery with a unique twist—the kitchen is staffed by four grandmothers (or “nonnas”) from different regions of Italy, each serving up their cherished family recipes.
The cast is a powerhouse lineup of veteran actors and familiar faces.
The film stars Lorraine Bracco, Talia Shire, Brenda Vaccaro, and Susan Sarandon as the passionate nonnas — Roberta, Teresa, Antonella, and Gia. Joining Vaughn are Linda Cardellini as Olivia, Joe’s former flame he reconnects within an Italian market, and Joe Manganiello as Bruno, his ride-or-die best friend who knows the healing power of a home-cooked meal. Drea de Matteo, Campbell Scott, and Michael Rispoli are rounding out the cast.

Though Joe leads the charge, Nonnas is more than just his journey. It’s a celebration of connection — to the past, to culture, and to each other — through food. The grandmothers, each with her own history, find a new purpose in their second act. Olivia and Bruno bring their own emotional baggage to the table, making Nonnas a multi-generational story about love, loss, and the memories we taste in every bite.

Directed by Stephen Chbosky (Wonder, The Perks of Being a Wallflower) and written by Liz Maccie, the film is produced by Gigi Pritzker, Rachel Shane, and Jack Turner. It features a long list of executive producers including Scott Budnick, Vince Vaughn, and even Jody Scaravella himself — the man whose life inspired this delicious story.

Whether you’re Italian or just Italian at heart, Nonnas is shaping up to be a comfort food movie in every sense — warm, rich, and full of soul. Keep an eye out for this love letter to family, food, and finding your way back home, only on Netflix on May 9th.
