Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner Chase Love in One Night Only Trailer

One Night Only is ready to make summer moviegoers believe in messy, magical timing.

The new romantic comedy from Will Gluck, the filmmaker behind Anyone but You and Easy A, opens in theaters August 7. With Monica Barbaro and Callum Turner leading a stacked cast, the film follows two strangers who meet during one chaotic night in a slightly fictionalized New York City.

Barbaro, an Academy Award nominee for A Complete Unknown and a standout from Top Gun: Maverick, stars as Allie. Turner, a BAFTA nominee known for Masters of the Air and the Fantastic Beasts franchise who is rumored to be in the James Bond running and starring in Apple TV’s Neuromancer, plays Owen. Together, they anchor a story built around missed chances, unexpected sparks, and the kind of emotional detours that make romantic comedies work.

A Messy Night With Real Romantic Stakes

The film asks a simple but loaded question: What if one messy night turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to you?

In One Night Only, Owen has recently been dumped. Allie, meanwhile, remains a hopeful romantic looking for something more meaningful. They meet on the least romantic night of the year, when single people across the city are chasing connection for all the wrong reasons.

However, Allie and Owen might be the only two people in New York searching for more than a quick encounter. Their spark is immediate, but the night keeps getting in the way. A series of missteps, side quests, and bad timing pulls them apart as quickly as it brings them together.

As they move across the city, they race toward and away from each other. Along the way, they may discover that the thing they want most has been closer than they realized.

Will Gluck Returns to the Rom-Com Lane

Gluck has a strong history with sharp, crowd-pleasing comedy. Easy A helped define a generation of high school comedies, while Anyone but You helped prove audiences still want glossy, big-screen romantic comedies.

With One Night Only, Gluck appears to be leaning into that same energy while giving the genre a fresh modern hook. The story blends wit, romance, and citywide chaos with a premise designed for moviegoers who miss the classic rom-com experience.

Gluck co-wrote, directed, and produced the film. The screenplay is based on a script from Travis Braun. Jacqueline Monetta, executive producer of Anyone but You, produces alongside Gluck through Olive Bridge Entertainment.

A Cast Built for Comedy, Chaos, and Chemistry

The film’s ensemble adds even more personality to the night, blending rising stars, sharp comedic voices, music-world energy and screen legends. Callum Turner brings credits such as Masters of the Air, The Boys in the Boat, Emma. and the Fantastic Beasts films, while Maya Hawke joins after becoming a fan favorite on Stranger Things and appearing in Do Revenge, Asteroid City, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Inside Out 2 and Maestro. Julia Fox broke out in Uncut Gems, and King Princess brings her indie pop presence after appearing in Nine Perfect Strangers.

The cast also includes Ziwe, known for Ziwe, Baited with Ziwe and Dickinson, along with Ben Marshall of Saturday Night Live and Please Don’t Destroy. Molly Ringwald brings classic teen-film history from Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink, while LeVar Burton remains beloved for Reading Rainbow, Roots and Star Trek: The Next Generation.

A Summer Date Movie With a Big-Screen Hook

One Night Only arrives at a time when audiences have shown renewed interest in romantic comedies that feel theatrical, funny, and easy to enjoy with a crowd. With Gluck behind the camera and Barbaro and Turner leading the story, the film has the pieces for a charming summer escape.
