Jessica Chastain Takes on Dual Roles in Other Mommy Trailer

Other Mommy Brings a Sinister Presence Into the Family Home

Jessica Chastain is stepping back into the horror genre with Other Mommy. It is a chilling supernatural thriller that sees the Academy Award-winning actress taking on one of her most unsettling roles yet.

Set to arrive in theaters on October 9, Other Mommy comes from producer James Wan and the Blumhouse Atomic Monster banner. The partnership continues the studio’s streak of psychological and supernatural horror films. Directed by Host and The Boogeyman filmmaker Rob Savage, the film adapts Josh Malerman’s bestselling novel Incidents Around the House into what promises to be one of the fall’s most haunting releases.

Jessica Chastain Plays Two Very Different Mothers

In Other Mommy, Chastain portrays both Bela’s loving mother and the terrifying entity known only as “Other Mommy,” a mysterious presence that slowly infiltrates the family’s home while taking on the appearance of Bela’s real mother.

The story follows young Bela, who forms a disturbing relationship with the sinister figure lurking inside her house. As the entity grows closer to the child, the line between reality and nightmare begins to disappear, leaving the family trapped in an increasingly horrifying situation.

The dual performance gives Chastain the opportunity to play both protector and predator, making her one of the film’s biggest attractions.

A Strong Cast Surrounds Chastain

Joining Chastain is Jay Duplass as Bela’s father, Daddo, while rising young actor Arabella Olivia Clark takes on the central role of Bela.

The supporting cast includes Dichen Lachman (Severance), Arian Moayed (Succession), and legendary actress Karen Allen, best known for the Indiana Jones franchise.

Rob Savage Returns to Horror

Director Rob Savage has quickly become one of horror’s most exciting filmmakers following the breakout success of Host and his adaptation of Stephen King’s The Boogeyman. With Other Mommy, he once again explores psychological terror, family trauma, and supernatural dread.

The screenplay comes from WGA Award winner Nathan Elston, whose writing credits include HBO’s Emmy-winning drama Succession. The script is based on Josh Malerman’s New York Times bestselling novel Incidents Around the House. Malerman is already well known among horror fans as the author of Bird Box.

Behind the scenes, James Wan produces through Blumhouse Atomic Monster, continuing his legacy of delivering modern horror franchises, including Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring. Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Rob Savage, Josh Malerman, and Ryan Lewis serve as executive producers.

Jessica Chastain Continues an Impressive Career

Jessica Chastain remains one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed and versatile performers. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for The Eyes of Tammy Faye, earning praise for her transformative portrayal of televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker.

Her acclaimed filmography also includes Zero Dark Thirty, The Help, Interstellar, Molly’s Game, The Martian, Crimson Peak, The Good Nurse, Scenes from a Marriage, and It Chapter Two. Across drama, science fiction, thriller, and horror, Chastain has consistently delivered emotionally powerful performances while becoming one of the industry’s most respected leading actresses.

Her return to horror in Other Mommy places her at the center of another psychologically demanding role that could become one of the genre’s standout performances this year.

Other Mommy opens in theaters on October 9, 2026.
