The series is inspired by the real-life story of Melissa G. Moore, whose experience was chronicled in the critically acclaimed Happy Face podcast from iHeartPodcasts. Moore’s autobiography, Shattered Silence, co-written with M. Bridget Cook, further delves into her harrowing past. At the age of 15, Moore discovered that her beloved father, a man she had idolized, was the notorious serial killer known as the Happy Face Killer.

Now an adult, Moore has changed her name and spent years hiding the painful truth while her father has been serving life in prison.

The Paramount+ drama picks up years later. It follows Moore (Ashford) and her incarcerated father (Quaid), who has managed to reinsert himself into her life after decades of no contact. As Melissa grapples with the reality of her father’s crimes, she finds herself in a race against time to prevent an innocent man from being executed for one of her father’s murders. In the process, Melissa must confront the devastating impact her father had on his victims’ families and come to terms with her own identity.

The series is based on Moore’s personal story. Happy Face promises to be a gripping exploration of trauma, family secrets, and the search for justice.
