Beware the Planet of the Apes is arriving in 2024.

Marvel Comics will unveil a new chapter in the Planet of the Apes universe. They have announced “Beware the Planet of the Apes #1,” authored by Marc Guggenheim and illustrated by Álvaro López. This four-issue limited series is a prequel to the groundbreaking 1968 film. The original movie initiated a wave of ape-dominated science fiction throughout the ’70s and beyond. Fans eager to delve into this prequel adventure can catch a sneak peek of the debut issue below. This series promises to transport readers back to the classic style of the original films. It will also offer fresh insights into the history of the planet.

The series takes place in a hostile world ruled by aggressive gorillas.
It follows scientists Cornelius and Zira, the last apes who recognize the value in the mute, seemingly inferior human race. However, when their nephew Lucius disappears, the duo reluctantly turns to a human ally, a young woman destined to become the iconic “Nova.” Guggenheim, the creative mind behind the series, expressed his enthusiasm for the project. He said, “In many ways, Apes is one of the OG franchises, filled with mystery, fascinating characters, and some truly off-the-wall surprises. That’s the spirit I’m working to evoke with Beware the Planet of the Apes .”

The collaboration between Marvel Comics and Planet of the Apes is steeped in history. It dates back over 40 years. Marvel’s initial foray into the Apes universe began in 1974. 1975, the comic giant published “Adventures on the Planet of the Apes.” It offered full-color adaptations of the legendary film series. The movie was renowned for its imaginative world-building and adept exploration of social issues. This franchise has endured for over five decades across various media. As Beware the Planet of the Apes unfolds, readers can anticipate a thrilling journey that pays homage to the franchise’s roots while adding new layers to its intricate mythology.
