The SpongeBob Universe Expands with Plankton: The Movie Coming to Netflix – Trailer

Plankton takes the spotlight in Plankton: The Movie.

Sheldon J. Plankton is stepping out of the shadows and into the spotlight in Plankton: The Movie, an all-new adventure set in the world of SpongeBob SquarePants. The tiny but determined villain of Bikini Bottom is finally getting his own feature film, premiering exclusively on Netflix on March 7.

For years, Plankton has been obsessed with stealing the Krabby Patty secret formula, often hatching elaborate schemes that never quite go as planned. But in his first-ever solo movie, Plankton’s latest evil plan takes an unexpected turn, putting not just Bikini Bottom but the surface world in danger. With chaos looming, Plankton is faced with an unlikely challenge—before he can take over the world, he must first save it.

The film marks a major milestone for SpongeBob SquarePants, one of Nickelodeon’s most successful franchises. Since its debut in 1999, the series has become a global phenomenon, spawning multiple theatrical films, spin-offs, and merchandise. Previous films have focused on SpongeBob and his pals. Plankton: The Movie shifts the focus to the iconic, one-eyed antagonist. It also features his equally infamous computer wife, Karen.

Fans can expect the same brand of humor, wild antics, and colorful animation that have defined SpongeBob SquarePants for over two decades. The film will present Plankton in an entirely new light. Audiences will see him beyond his typical role as the Krusty Krab’s pint-sized nemesis.

With its Netflix debut, Plankton: The Movie continues the trend of streaming-exclusive releases for major animated properties. Following the success of The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run and the Kamp Koral spin-off, this latest installment reinforces the franchise’s enduring popularity with both longtime fans and a new generation of viewers.

Will Plankton rise to the occasion and prove he’s more than just a scheming villain? Find out when the film premieres on Netflix on March 7.
