‘Re-Animator’ Returns in Gory 4K for 40th Anniversary with Ultimate Collector’s Release

After production delays caused by the L.A. fires and customs slowdowns due to tariffs, Re-Animator is finally back—and bloodier than ever. The horror-comedy cult classic from director Stuart Gordon has been fully restored in a dazzling 4K UHD release, just in time for its 40th anniversary. Approved by producer Brian Yuzna, the new restoration brings fresh life (and death) to H.P. Lovecraft’s twisted tale of science gone way too far.

Starting today, Ignite Films and Eagle Rock Pictures have officially begun shipping the highly anticipated 4K restorations of Re-Animator, exclusively through the Ignite Films website. This exclusive anniversary release will remain available through 2025, with four different editions packed with gory goodness and fan-favorite extras.

“Stuart Gordon would have been so proud,” said producer Brian Yuzna. “It looks great—especially on a big screen. It’s like seeing it again for the first time. This 4K version re-animates the movie in all its glorious madness—just as Herbert West intended!”

Originally released in 1985, Re-Animator shocked audiences with its wild mix of gore and dark humor. Jeffrey Combs stars as the infamous Herbert West. He is a brilliant but deranged medical student who develops a serum that brings the dead back to life—with terrifying consequences. The film also stars Bruce Abbott, Barbara Crampton, David Gale, and Robert Sampson.

This 40th Anniversary restoration follows in the footsteps of Ignite and Eagle Rock’s acclaimed work on Invaders From Mars, which recently won several awards, including a 2024 Saturn Award for Best Classic Film Home Media Release.

There are four editions available, each packed with extras:

• Ultimate Limited Edition Box Set: Includes the 4K UHD/Blu-ray combo, over 2 hours of new bonus features, a hardcover book featuring cast and crew interviews, essays, collector’s art cards, and an exclusive Dr. Hill bobblehead. Some lucky buyers may even find a hidden green “re-agent” in their box, unlocking a signed poster and surprise gift pack.

• Deluxe Edition Box Set: Contains everything in the Ultimate Set minus the bobblehead and prize bonus.
• 4K Standard Edition: This edition features the 4K UHD disc, a slipcover, and all new and legacy bonus features.

• Blu-ray Standard Edition: Includes the Blu-ray disc with the same bonus content.

Newly produced features include in-depth interviews with Combs, Crampton, Yuzna, and editor Lee Percy, a 4K restoration featurette, and a look back at Re-Animator: The Musical. Legacy features include commentaries, deleted scenes, the uncut Integral Version, and the fan-favorite Re-Animator: Resurrectus documentary.
