Avengers: Doomsday will star Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom.

Marvel Studios took over Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con with a mind-blowing panel filled with wild announcements, leaving fans thrilled and excited. Among the most electrifying reveals were the titles of the next two Avengers movies. First up is “Avengers: Doomsday,” slated for release in May 2026. This film promises to be a monumental event, with the Fantastic Four and the Thunderbolts joining the battle. “Avengers: Secret Wars” will be released in May 2027. Both films will be helmed by the visionary Russo Brothers, known for their work on “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame.”


The biggest surprise of the panel was Robert Downey Jr.’s announcement of starring as Doctor Doom. Known for his iconic portrayal of Tony Stark/Iron Man, Downey Jr. is set to take on this complex villain. “What I tell ya, I like playing complicated characters,” Downey Jr. quipped, hinting at the depth and nuance he plans to bring to the role.
Anthony Russo expressed his excitement about their return to the MCU.
He stated, “Joe and I truly believed that that was the end of us for the MCU cause we had put all our passion and love into those past films.” Their return signifies a new era of storytelling, filled with their signature blend of emotion and spectacle.

Adding to the enthusiasm, the Fantastic Four will appear in both upcoming Avengers films. The crowd erupted when early footage of Galactus in the “Fantastic Four” movie was shown. The footage featured his face peering through a building, establishing him as a colossal cosmic entity. Another major highlight was the official title reveal of the Fantastic Four’s standalone film, “The Fantastic Four: First Steps.” Set in a futuristic 1960s era and featuring the iconic villain Galactus, this film is already generating massive buzz. Filming begins on Tuesday, and a theatrical release is July 25, 2025.

The panel also showcased “Captain America: Brave New World.”
Anthony Mackie is making his big-screen debut as Captain America. Joined by Tim Blake Nelson, Danny Ramirez, and Giancarlo Esposito, who confirmed he is playing Sidewinder, they revealed exclusive footage and welcomed Harrison Ford to the stage. Ford makes his MCU debut as President Thaddeus Ross. This story follows Sam Wilson as he navigates an international incident after meeting the newly elected U.S. President.


Additionally, “Thunderbolts” was highlighted, with director Jake Schreier and stars including Geraldine Viswanathan, Lewis Pullman, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, and David Harbour taking the stage. The audience got to see a scene from the movie, set for a May 2, 2025 release.
