Sylvester Stallone’s Oscar-winning boxing classic celebrates 50 years with a collectible SteelBook, exclusive mini-poster and hours of bonus features.

Fifty years after inspiring audiences worldwide, Sylvester Stallone‘s iconic boxing classic Rocky is returning with a limited-edition 4K UHD SteelBook celebrating its 50th anniversary. Amazon MGM Studios and Alliance Home Entertainment have announced a special two-disc collector’s edition of the Academy Award-winning film, arriving December 15.
The anniversary release celebrates one of Hollywood’s greatest underdog stories with premium SteelBook packaging, a collectible mini-poster and hours of special features exploring the making of the beloved 1976 film. Fans can revisit Rocky Balboa’s unforgettable journey in 4K Ultra HD while discovering archival footage, filmmaker commentaries and behind-the-scenes documentaries.
Written by and starring Stallone, and directed by John G. Avildsen, Rocky became a defining moment in American cinema. Its powerful story about determination, perseverance, and chasing impossible dreams continues to inspire audiences five decades later.
Rocky Celebrates 50 Years of Cinematic Greatness
Released in 1976, Rocky follows Rocky Balboa, a struggling Philadelphia boxer who earns an unexpected opportunity to compete for the world heavyweight championship. When heavyweight champion Apollo Creed, played by Carl Weathers, offers him a chance to fight, Rocky begins an extraordinary journey that changes his life.

However, Rocky’s story extends far beyond boxing. At its heart, the film explores a working-class fighter searching for dignity, love, and the opportunity to prove himself.
Alongside Stallone and Weathers, the celebrated cast includes Talia Shire as Adrian Pennino, Burt Young as Paulie Pennino, and Burgess Meredith as Mickey Goldmill. Their performances helped establish characters who would become unforgettable parts of movie history.
The film became a massive commercial and critical success, earning approximately $225 million worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing film of 1976.
Rocky received 10 Academy Award nominations and won three Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director for Avildsen, and Best Film Editing.
Its success transformed Stallone into a Hollywood superstar and launched one of the most recognizable franchises in entertainment history. The character would return in multiple sequels and eventually inspire the Creed franchise, introducing Rocky’s legacy to new generations.
Rocky 50th Anniversary SteelBook Includes Special Collectibles
To honor the milestone, Amazon MGM Studios and Alliance Home Entertainment are releasing Rocky in a premium two-disc SteelBook collection designed for longtime fans and physical media collectors.

The limited-edition package includes the original film on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray, along with a souvenir mini-poster commemorating its 50-year legacy.
The 4K UHD disc features three audio commentaries with Stallone, members of the cast, filmmakers, and boxing experts, providing insight into the film’s production, performances, and lasting cultural influence.
These commentaries allow audiences to revisit the film through the perspectives of those who brought Rocky Balboa’s story to life and those who understand the boxing world that helped shape its authenticity.
The Blu-ray disc also contains more than three hours of additional bonus material, giving collectors an extensive look behind the scenes of the Oscar-winning production.
Among the highlights are archival 8mm home movies from 1975, offering a rare glimpse into the early development of Rocky.
A three-part making-of documentary explores the creative process behind the film, while additional featurettes examine its memorable musical score, makeup, directing and cinematography.
The collection celebrates the artists and filmmakers responsible for turning a relatively modest boxing drama into an enduring Hollywood phenomenon.
Sylvester Stallone’s Rocky Legacy Continues
Few movie characters have achieved the cultural recognition of Rocky Balboa. From his early morning runs through Philadelphia to his legendary climb up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Rocky’s story has become synonymous with resilience and refusing to give up.

The film’s unforgettable training montages, emotional performances, and triumphant score by composer Bill Conti helped establish a formula that continues to influence sports dramas.
Stallone’s portrayal of the Italian Stallion also established one of cinema’s most recognizable heroes. Unlike traditional action stars, Rocky wasn’t defined by invincibility. His greatest strength came from his willingness to keep fighting, even when the odds seemed impossible.
The franchise expanded with five theatrical sequels before continuing through the Creed films, which introduced Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Creed, the son of Rocky’s former rival and close friend Apollo Creed.
Five decades later, Rocky remains a powerful reminder that victory isn’t always measured by winning a championship. Sometimes, success comes from simply having the courage to go the distance.
The anniversary celebration also extends to theaters, with a special 4K-remastered presentation of Rocky scheduled for November 7-11 through Fathom Entertainment. The theatrical event includes an exclusive look at Amazon MGM Studios’ upcoming film I Play Rocky, which explores the creation of the original movie.
For collectors, the upcoming SteelBook offers another opportunity to celebrate the film that introduced audiences to one of Hollywood’s greatest underdogs.
ROCKY 50th Anniversary Edition releases on 4K UHD and Blu-ray SteelBook on December 15, 2026.
