‘Saturday Night’ is The Untold Story of SNL’s Debut – Trailer

‘Saturday Night’ features the chaos and comedy that revolutionized television.

“Saturday Night,” a comedy-drama directed by Jason Reitman and written by Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire ‘s Gil Kenan and Reitman, takes audiences back to a pivotal moment in television history. Set to hit theaters on October 11, 2024, the film captures the frantic and hilarious 90 minutes leading up to the first-ever broadcast of Saturday Night Live on October 11, 1975, at 11:30 p.m.

This feature offers an in-depth look at the creative chaos that nearly derailed what would become an iconic television show. Through a mix of humor, tension, and a touch of nostalgia, “Saturday Night” invites viewers into the world behind the scenes, where a group of young comedians and writers, led by the show’s creator, Lorne Michaels, revolutionized television and popular culture.

The ensemble cast is led by Gabriel LaBelle as Lorne Michaels, who spearheads the frenzied preparation. The film features an impressive lineup alongside LaBelle, including Dylan O’Brien as Dan Aykroyd, Cory Michael Smith as Chevy Chase, and Rachel Sennott as Rosie Shuster. Lamorne Morris portrays Garrett Morris, while Nicholas Braun steps into the role of Jim Henson, the creative genius behind the Muppets. Finn Wolfhard appears as a young NBC page, adding to the mix of characters who make up this historic moment in television.

The supporting cast brings a diverse range of talent to the screen.

It features Ella Hunt as Radnor, Cooper Hoffman as Dick Ebersol, Andrew Barth Feldman as Neil Levy, and Naomi McPherson as Ian. Veteran actors Willem Dafoe and J.K. Simmons portray David Tebet and Milton Berle, respectively, adding depth to the portrayal of the television industry in the 1970s. Kaia Gerber rounds out the ensemble as Jacqueline Carlin. “Saturday Night” promises to be more than a nostalgic trip down memory lane. The film explores the pressure and excitement of launching a live television show that could either fail spectacularly or make history. The narrative unfolds in real-time, counting down the minutes until those famous words are heard: “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!”
