Sesame Street Coming to Netflix With New Season and 90 Hours of Classic Episodes

Sesame Street has created a legacy of learning and laughter.

Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and the rest of the Sesame Street gang are heading to Netflix later this year. The beloved children’s series will debut an all-new, reimagined 56th season on the streaming platform, along with 90 hours of classic episodes, bringing smiles, songs, and lessons to families worldwide.

The new season will introduce a refreshed format while keeping some of the most-loved segments that generations of fans grew up with, including Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck. Viewers can look forward to new interactive moments such as Cookie Monster’s brand-new Cookie Cart and magical adventures in Abby’s Fairy Garden, featuring fun and whimsical creatures.

One major change this season is the shift to a single, 11-minute story per episode. This new format emphasizes character-driven humor and emotional storytelling, designed to better engage today’s young audiences.

Though Netflix will stream these new episodes globally, they’ll also be available the same day in the U.S. on PBS stations and PBS KIDS digital platforms — continuing Sesame Street’s mission of delivering free, high-quality early education to all children.

Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit behind Sesame Street, is producing the new season. Executive producers include Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings. Halcyon Person, an Emmy, Humanitas, and NAACP Image Award nominee known for Karma’s World and Dee & Friends in Oz, joins as head writer.

A Landmark in Children’s Television

Since its debut on November 10, 1969, Sesame Street has been a groundbreaking force in children’s television. Created by Joan Ganz Cooney and Lloyd Morrisett and developed with educational advisors and child psychologists, the show was designed to prepare young children for school — especially those from low-income families.

Over the decades, Sesame Street has introduced countless characters, tackled difficult topics with compassion, and promoted diversity, inclusion, and kindness. It has earned more Emmy Awards than any other television show and remains one of children’s media’s most trusted and celebrated brands.

This new Netflix chapter marks a major milestone in the show’s evolution. It brings Sesame Street’s timeless magic to a new generation of streamers while still staying true to its original mission: helping kids grow smarter, stronger, and kinder.
