Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Trailer Debuts With Keanu Reeves as Shadow

Sonic the Hedgehog returns to the big screen this holiday season with his most thrilling adventure yet. Hitting theaters on Dec. 20, 2024, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 promises to deliver high-octane action and adventure as Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails face their greatest challenge yet. Watch the trailer below!

Directed by Jeff Fowler, the latest installment reunites the iconic trio against a powerful new adversary: Shadow the Hedgehog. Shadow is a mysterious and dangerous villain. He possesses powers, unlike anything Sonic and his friends have faced before. With their abilities outmatched, Team Sonic must form an unlikely alliance to stand a chance against Shadow and save the planet.

Fowler, who helmed the previous two films, returns with an all-star cast.

Jim Carrey reprises his role as the villainous Dr. Robotnik. He also plays Gerald Robotnik, while Ben Schwartz lends his voice to the speedy blue hero, Sonic. James Marsden and Tika Sumpter also return as Tom and Maddie Wachowski, the human companions who help Sonic on his quest. Joining the ensemble are Idris Elba as Knuckles, Colleen O’Shaughnessey as Tails, and Natasha Rothwell as Rachel. Adam Pally and Lee Majdoub also return, with newcomers Alyla Browne and Krysten Ritter adding fresh faces to the cast. In a highly anticipated addition, Keanu Reeves joins the franchise as the voice of Shadow the Hedgehog, bringing an edge to the character.

The first two movies follow the speedy blue hedgehog as he teams up with humans like Tom Wachowski.

They must save Earth from the evil Dr. Robotnik, played by Jim Carrey. In the first film, Sonic is chased by Robotnik, who wants to use Sonic’s power for world domination, but Sonic ultimately defeats him with help from his new friends. In the sequel, Sonic faces a new threat from Knuckles the Echidna, who seeks the powerful Master Emerald. With the aid of Tails, Sonic defeats Robotnik again, this time sending him into oblivion. The post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 teases the introduction of Shadow the Hedgehog, hinting at the next big challenge Sonic will face in the upcoming film.
