The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants is a larger-than-life undersea quest.

Nickelodeon Movies and Paramount Pictures have unveiled the trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants, arriving in theaters on December 19, 2025. The film promises an oversized, splashy adventure, teasing, “Get ready for a movie so big you’ll lose your pants.”

The franchise returns to theaters with its most ambitious story yet as SpongeBob SquarePants rallies his Bikini Bottom friends for a high-stakes journey across the ocean. The film marks another major cinematic entry for the beloved character, whose global popularity continues to anchor Nickelodeon’s animated legacy.
SpongeBob Chases the Flying Dutchman
The new film follows SpongeBob on a quest to prove to Mr. Krabs that he can be a “big guy.” When the Flying Dutchman appears, the legendary ghost pirate sends SpongeBob spiraling into a deep-sea chase that pushes him far beyond the safety of his pineapple home.

The seafaring adventure takes the crew into uncharted waters and introduces a fresh batch of obstacles for SpongeBob, Patrick, and the entire Bikini Bottom gang. The studio describes this as the biggest SpongeBob cinematic event to date, boasting a scale that promises broad appeal for families and longtime fans.
A Stacked Voice Cast and a Major Music Debut
Directed by Derek Drymon, the film reunites the core cast, including Tom Kenny, Clancy Brown, Rodger Bumpass, Bill Fagerbakke, Carolyn Lawrence, and Mr. Lawrence, among other fan-favorite performers. New additions include George Lopez, Arturo Castro, Sherry Cola, Regina Hall, and Mark Hamill.

Rapper Isis “Ice Spice” Gaston joins the ensemble in her first voice acting role, adding new energy to the franchise and contributing an original track titled “Big Guy.” Her involvement broadens the film’s musical reach and adds a pop-culture spark to the holiday release.

A Bikini Bottom Event for the Big Screen
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants brings audiences back to theaters with a bold, comedic tale built for the holiday season. With an all-star cast, a new song from Ice Spice, and a storyline that sends SpongeBob on his deepest adventure yet, the film aims to anchor a major box office moment for families this December.
The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants opens only in theaters on December 19, 2025.
