Maul plots a criminal comeback in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.

Lucasfilm Animation is bringing Darth Maul back to center stage. “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” will premiere on Disney+ on April 6, 2026. The all-new animated series features Sam Witwer, Gideon Adlon, and Oscar-nominated Wagner Moura. Disney+ will release two episodes each week, then close the season with a final two-episode event on May 4.
The series picks up after “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” placing Maul in a galaxy that keeps shifting under Imperial control. However, the show’s setup avoids the familiar warfronts. Instead, it drops Maul onto a planet the Empire has not touched. That distance gives him room to plan, recruit, and strike back.
Maul’s Plan: Rebuild the Syndicate, Feed the Revenge
Maul returns with one goal: power. He aims to rebuild his criminal syndicate while staying out of the Empire’s reach. The story frames that effort as a pulpy adventure, with Maul operating like a predator in the shadows. As a result, each move becomes both a gamble and a message.

Along the way, Maul crosses paths with a young Jedi Padawan who has lost faith. The Padawan feels disillusioned, and that frustration becomes a weapon Maul can shape. He sees the Padawan as the apprentice he has been searching for. If Maul gets what he wants, revenge will stop being a dream and become a mission.
Dave Filoni and Lucasfilm Animation Return to a Familiar Lane
Dave Filoni created “Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord,” based on Star Wars and characters created by George Lucas. Filoni developed the series with Matt Michnovetz. Brad Rau serves as supervising director, bringing steady leadership to the animation team.
Voice Cast Stacks the Bench Around Maul
Witwer voices Maul, returning to a role he has made iconic in animation. Adlon voices Devon Izara, while Moura voices Brander Lawson. The supporting cast adds Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots and Dennis Haysbert as Master Eeko-Dio-Daki. Chris Diamantopoulos voices Looti Vario, and Charlie Bushnell voices Rylee Lawson.
The cast also includes Vanessa Marshall as Rook Kast, David C. Collins as Spybot, A.J. LoCascio as Marrok, and Steve Blum as Icarus. Collectively, the lineup points to a larger network around Maul. That network could include allies, rivals, and targets.
“Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord” premieres on Disney+ on April 6, 2026.
