Stephen King’s first novel, The Long Walk, gets a chilling cinematic adaptation from director Francis Lawrence.

Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con was buzzing with anticipation as the official trailer for The Long Walk dropped during a star-studded panel. In attendance were cast members David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, and the legendary Mark Hamill. Director Francis Lawrence, known for the “Hunger Games” franchise, joined the panel alongside screenwriter JT Mollner and producer Roy Lee. The panel presented the first look at the upcoming thriller.

The film is based on Stephen King’s first novel, published under the Richard Bachman pseudonym. The Long Walk is a psychological and emotional survival thriller that dares to ask: how far could you go?
A Harrowing Journey
The story unfolds in a dystopian future where 100 teenage boys are forced to participate in an annual walking contest. There’s one rule: keep walking or die. Only one walker will emerge victorious, and the consequences for slowing down—even for a moment—are fatal.
The film’s ensemble cast features Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Jordan Gonzalez, Joshua Odjick, Josh Hamilton, and Judy Greer. Mark Hamill joins the cast in a mysterious and pivotal role, adding gravitas to this dark, high-stakes narrative.
From Page to Screen
Francis Lawrence brings his trademark intensity and visual flair to the project. Known for guiding The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Mockingjay Parts 1 & 2, and The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, Lawrence is no stranger to building tension and world-building with emotional depth. Screenwriter JT Mollner adapts King’s haunting text, maintaining the novel’s raw psychological terror while modernizing its dystopian themes for today’s audience.

The film is produced by Roy Lee (It), Steven Schneider (Paranormal Activity), Francis Lawrence, and Cameron MacConomy.
