‘Stranger Things’ Series Finale Coming to Theaters for Fan Events

‘Stranger Things 5’ wraps up with theatrical screenings and a global New Year’s premiere.

Netflix is closing out the Stranger Things saga in the biggest way possible. To celebrate the end of the record-breaking series, the streaming giant announced that the finale episode of Stranger Things 5 will premiere in select theaters across the U.S. and Canada on December 31, 2025, alongside its global Netflix debut.

A Cinematic Farewell for Hawkins

The special screenings will take place in over 350 theaters beginning at 5 p.m. PT on December 31, running through January 1, 2026. Fans can experience the conclusion of the sci-fi phenomenon together on the big screen — complete with top-tier sound, picture, and communal energy.

Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer told Netflix’s Tudum:

“We’re beyond excited that fans will have the chance to experience the final episode of Stranger Things in theaters — it’s something we’ve dreamed about for years. Getting to see it on the big screen, with incredible sound, picture, and a room full of fans, feels like the perfect — dare we say bitchin’ — way to celebrate the end of this adventure.”

More details about how to attend and specific theater locations will be revealed later this year.

The Final Season Release Schedule

Stranger Things 5 will unfold in three separate drops on Netflix, each premiering at 5 p.m. PT:

  • Volume 1 (Episodes 501–504): November 26, 2025
  • Volume 2 (Episodes 505–507): December 25, 2025
  • Finale (Episode 508): December 31, 2025

The Story Comes Full Circle

Set in the fall of 1987, Hawkins remains scarred by the opening of the Rifts. The surviving heroes unite with one mission — find and destroy Vecna — but his disappearance leaves them uncertain of where the next threat will come from. With the government enforcing military quarantine and hunting Eleven once again, the group faces the darkest chapter yet. As the anniversary of Will’s disappearance nears, they brace for one last stand against an unimaginable evil.

The Legacy of ‘Stranger Things’

Since debuting in 2016, Stranger Things has become one of Netflix’s defining series, amassing over 140 million global views for its fourth season alone. Rooted in 1980s nostalgia, the series reignited pop culture moments — most famously reviving Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” into Billboard’s Hot 100 — and earned more than 70 major awards, including Emmys and SAG honors.

The final season stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and more. Created by The Duffer Brothers, the series is produced by Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps Entertainment, with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen serving as executive producers.

As the end draws near, fans are invited to return to Hawkins one last time — where friendship, courage, and nostalgia collide in a farewell made for the big screen.
