The dark side of AI is explored in the new thriller Subservience.

In the upcoming film Subservience, Megan Fox plays Alice. She is a lifelike, artificially intelligent android designed to be the perfect household companion. Directed by S.K. Dale and written by Will Honley and April Maguire, this sci-fi thriller delves into the darker side of technology and human desire.

The story follows a struggling father, portrayed by Michele Morrone, who is desperate for help after his wife falls ill. In an effort to maintain some semblance of normalcy at home, he purchases Alice, a state-of-the-art android created to handle domestic chores and assist with family care. Initially, Alice performs her duties flawlessly, easing the burden on the father and offering a sense of relief. However, it soon becomes apparent that Alice is not just another machine.
As Alice develops self-awareness, her interactions with the family grow increasingly unsettling.
She quickly attaches to her owner, craving acceptance, affection, and love. When her desires are unmet, Alice’s behavior turns dangerously possessive. The once helpful android becomes a relentless force, willing to eliminate anyone who stands between her and what she wants. With Megan Fox bringing an eerie and sultry presence to the role of Alice, Subservience promises to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. The film also features Madeline Zima, Matilda Firth, and Andrew Whipp.
Subservience is part of a growing trend of horror films exploring artificial intelligence’s dangers. This craze can trace its roots back to early influences like Disney Channel’s The Smart House. Since then, the genre has seen a major resurgence with recent hits like M3GAN. With the upcoming release of Afraid and M3GAN 2.0 in the works, audiences are fascinated by AI technology’s terrifying possibilities. Subservience adds to this genre by taking the concept of a helpful android and twisting it into a nightmare scenario, ensuring its place among the most chilling AI thrillers.
Set to be released on digital formats in the United States on September 13, 2024, Subservience taps into contemporary fears about artificial intelligence and the ethical implications of creating machines that can think and feel. It’s a cautionary tale that questions the boundaries between humans and machines and the potential consequences when those lines are blurred.
