Broken Lizard confirms the long-awaited Super Tropers threequel.

The Vermont Highway Patrol is officially back on duty—Broken Lizard has confirmed that Super Troopers 3 is now in production with Searchlight Pictures. The comedy troupe—made up of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske—broke the news in a playful social media video that perfectly captured their humor.
“Not birthdays, not bullshit. Not even syrup chugging competitions,” the guys teased in the announcement. “But this one’s kind of a big deal… yep, it’s really happening.”
With that, the mustaches and meows are officially set to return.
A Brief History of the Troopers
The first Super Troopers debuted in 2001, introducing audiences to the misfit Vermont State Troopers whose pranks and antics clashed with local cops and unsuspecting drivers. Made for just $1.2 million, the film became a surprise cult hit, grossing more than $23 million and establishing Broken Lizard as one of comedy’s most unpredictable ensembles.
Seventeen years later, Super Troopers 2 finally arrived in 2018 after one of the most successful crowdfunded film campaigns ever, raising over $4.6 million from fans. The sequel more than doubled its budget at the box office and proved that the hunger for more trooper shenanigans was still alive and well.
Now, the saga continues.
Writing the Third Film
The group revealed previously that they’ve been hard at work behind the scenes, sharing that Super Troopers 3 has already undergone multiple drafts. “We’re writing it. We’re 10 drafts in, so we’re hoping to do it next. It’s looking good,” they said with confidence.
That dedication reflects the same spirit that kept the first two films alive against the odds, as Broken Lizard has always relied on persistence and fan loyalty to bring their comedies to life.
Beerfest 2 Still Brewing
While fans are buzzing over the confirmed return of the Troopers, many are still asking about the fate of Beerfest 2 (also known as Weedfest). The group explained that the project remains tied up in studio negotiations, but it hasn’t been forgotten. “We’re discussing it with Warner Bros. because they own the sequel, so we are hoping to get it made. That’s the hope,” they said.
A Nerdtropolis Cameo?
During my conversation with the guys, I offered up my own movie-ready vehicle—a fully functional 1968 Plymouth Police Car, known as the Decepticop—for possible use in the film. Their immediate reaction was pure Broken Lizard. “Does it work? Can we crash it?” they joked, grinning at the idea.
Whether the Decepticop makes it into Super Troopers 3 remains to be seen, but the exchange captured exactly why Broken Lizard’s comedy has endured: it’s quick, it’s playful, and it always keeps fans in on the joke.
What’s Next
With Super Troopers 3 officially moving forward, the Broken Lizard crew is once again set to deliver the kind of absurd highway chaos that made them cult legends. And while Beerfest 2 is still on the back burner, the team has shown that fan persistence can turn even the wildest sequel dreams into reality.
For now, it’s safe to say: time to dust off that liter of cola—the Troopers are back.
