Supergirl marks the next major step in the DC Universe.

“Supergirl,” DC Studios’ latest feature film, will soar into theaters worldwide this summer from Warner Bros. Pictures. Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El. This is her first appearance on the big screen since James Gunn and Peter Safran began reshaping the DC Universe. Craig Gillespie directs from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira.
The story follows Kara as she confronts a dangerous threat that strikes close to home. Forced out of isolation, she embarks on an interstellar mission. Her actions are driven by justice and survival. Along the way, she reluctantly partners with an unexpected ally. This adds tension and momentum to an adventure that expands the new DCU’s cosmic reach.

Alcock is joined by Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa. The film draws from DC Comics characters created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster. Safran and Gunn produce the project as part of their long-term plan for a connected slate of films and series. Executive producers include Nigel Gostelow, Chantal Nong Vo, and Lars P. Winther. Gillespie works with cinematographer Rob Hardy, production designer Neil Lamont, editor Tatiana S. Riegel, costume designer Anna B. Sheppard, visual effects supervisor Geoffrey Baumann, and composer Ramin Djawadi.
A Growing DC Universe Under James Gunn
“Supergirl” arrives as the next major step in Gunn’s unified DCU. Earlier this year, DC released “Superman,” a flagship film intended to set the tone and direction for the new continuity. That film laid the foundation for a more character-driven, interconnected world, with “Supergirl” expanding the universe beyond Earth.
Meanwhile, Gunn’s television slate continues to gain momentum. “Creature Commandos” premiered last year. The animated series introduced audiences to the DCU’s tone and ties directly into future live-action projects. “Peacemaker” returned with its second season. It brings back the blend of chaos and emotional depth that made the first season a standout.
Looking Ahead
The DCU will continue to grow with “Lanterns.” This new series centers on the Green Lantern Corps. The project is positioned as a major world-building piece for the franchise. It will connect to events unfolding across the films.
“Supergirl” will arrive at a pivotal moment. It pushes the DCU further into cosmic storytelling while building on the momentum created by “Superman,” “Creature Commandos,” and “Peacemaker,” and hopefully leads into “Lanterns.”
Supergirl releases in theaters on June 26.
