Terrifier 3 Delivers Shocking Gore and Twisted Holiday Fun at Fantastic Fest 2024

Art the Clown spreads holiday fear in Terrifier 3.

The ‘Terrifier’ film franchise has become infamous among the most hardcore horror fans. The movies are known for showcasing the most ludicrous amounts of gore possible, along with the increasingly recognizable likeness of serial killer Art the Clown. The ‘Terrifier’ films and franchise creator Damien Leone are hellbent on figuring out how to one-up themselves in new entries.

‘Terrifier 3’ is now entering ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’-territory. That means the newest entry can be considered either Halloween or Christmas fare, with Art the Clown donning a Santa suit for the majority of the runtime as he commits the most gruesomely bloody kills on screen.

Giving a plot rundown feels extraneous because it barely even functions three entries in.

What you need to know is that Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) is a demonic entity that is not so easily killed. The heroine, Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera), did her best to kill Art once and for all at the end of ‘Terrifer 2’. Of course he’s back to torture her and cause some holiday havoc. But let’s be honest, no one really watches the ‘Terrifier’ films for the plot, right? It’s all about the gore. In that department, ‘Terrifier 3’ does not disappoint. In case you didn’t gather by this point already, ‘Terrifer 3’ has some of the most ridiculous and revolting kills I have seen on screen. No one is safe when Art is around. No one.

While the performances sometimes hinge on the levels of a soap opera, everyone is having fun here. Thornton, in particular, feels extremely comfortable as Art, and it’s incredibly exciting to watch his silent and deranged performance. A new ‘Terrifier’ entry feels like being reunited with a group of friends, and you’re ready to watch the repellent pleasure play out. Some familiar faces, such as professional wrestling’s Chris Jericho, are sure to bring a smile to your blood-splattered faces.

Verdict

‘Terrifier 3’ is a bloody good time, even if the plot barely functions. Where you want it to deliver, it does. Plus, it leaves the door wide open for a fourth installment, which I am sure will leave audiences running for the exits and clutching their stomachs.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
