The Fall Guy – Movie Review

The Fall Guy delivers action-packed thrills and heartfelt nostalgia.

In the fast-paced world of Hollywood stunts and heart-racing action, “The Fall Guy” is a thrilling tribute to the unsung heroes behind our favorite blockbuster moments. It is directed by the renowned David Leitch, who was a stuntman himself for many years. This adrenaline-packed ride stars Barbie‘s Ryan Gosling in a role that showcases his versatility and charm.

At a runtime of 2 hours and 5 minutes, “The Fall Guy” balances its explosive action sequences with moments of rom-com charm. That is thanks to the undeniable chemistry between Gosling and Oppenheimer‘s Emily Blunt. Gosling, known for his leading-man appeal, embodies Colt Seavers. He is a resilient stuntman on a mission to find a missing movie star while navigating personal and professional hurdles.

The film’s action sequences are spectacular.

It showcases Leitch’s mastery of this genre. From jaw-dropping stunts to pulse-pounding chase scenes, every moment is a testament to the artistry of stunt performers and their often-overlooked contributions to cinema. “The Fall Guy” also shines humorously, injecting light-hearted moments amidst the adrenaline rush. However, some scenes do drag out, affecting the film’s pacing.

One standout aspect of “The Fall Guy” is its soundtrack. It perfectly complements the on-screen action and emotions, adding depth and fun to key moments. Ryan Gosling’s portrayal of Colt Seavers is a highlight, demonstrating why he’s a leading figure in Hollywood. His chemistry with Emily Blunt’s Jody Moreno brings a compelling dynamic to the story, adding emotional depth to the action-packed narrative.

Inspired by the 1980s TV series of the same name, “The Fall Guy” pays homage to classic action entertainment while delivering a fresh and engaging storyline. There are tons of easter eggs for fans of the Lee Major series. This film is also supported by a talented cast, including Winston Duke and Stephanie Hsu. The Fall Guy offers a blend of nostalgia and contemporary thrills. It is a love letter to action cinema, driven by Ryan Gosling’s captivating performance and David Leitch’s signature style.

Verdict

I give “The Fall Guy” 4 out of 5 stars. While it occasionally slows down, the film’s exhilarating action, charismatic performances, and nostalgic nods make it a must-watch for action enthusiasts and fans of Ryan Gosling alike.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
